fenugreek question
« on: April 26, 2011, 20:59:08 pm »
Just wondering how long to take it for? I've been taking the full amount (2400mg 3x daily I think) for about 3 weeks now and touch wood my supply seems to be ok now - although to complicate things dd has had another tummy bug so not sure if her appetite is quite what it should be..  So my question is really if it is ok to cut down - if so by how much and how long do I give it before I cut down more ifkwim? And if I do keep taking it does your body sort of get used to it and adjust accordingly (ie produce less milk) ? TIA

Hi 100Jackieb! When you take fenugreek and your supply increases your bub will take as much as he/she wants, thereby maintaining the supply you increased with the fenugreek. So as long as she's feeding well to maintain that supply, you're good to stop the fenugreek kwim? If you think she's not eating as much as usual right now maybe you want to wait until she's eating normally before stopping. But if you choose to and feel your supply is lower agin, then by all means start again. It's not a one shot deal and there's no magic amount of time to be on it, just when you notice your supply has gone up and your lo is happy with the amount she/he is taking  :) I had great success with it after being on for a few days and have gone back on once after I was away for a few days pumping only and it worked like a charm! Take Care!
