Rice milk
« on: April 27, 2011, 17:03:52 pm »
Just wondering if I can give this to ds who is 9.5mo. Not as a replacement for bf, but as an additional liquid.

I remember asking our ND about giving some sort of milk as a supplement to breastmilk and he said no, breastmilk is still everything he needs and there is no bother to giving something else.  You don't want the rice milk to take away from the bm.  I don't think there is really much nutritional value to rice milk anyway so it is probably best left out.  I'd stick with just water as an additional drink.  :)

RIce milk can contain inorganic arsenic compounds for dieticians don't recommend it; it is also really low in fats, etc

Mine didn't get it till over a year, maybe closer to 18 months. I needed it to give Nat her veg in a smoothie.... ::) We do make sure to give lots of good fats from other sources, and keep it to a minimum. It is supplemented with Vit D and calcium same as cows' milk, but wihtout the intolerance issues here.

But yes, it has some naturally-occurring arsenic in it that can be problematic for tiny people whose systems and body mass aren't able to handle it yet.
