In the last two weeks my 4 month old who was previously sleeping 2300-0700 has started waking between 0400 and 0430 every morning. He has just cut a tooth and i am sure that teething pain started this off. However as he wakes at the same time every night i am sure it has now become a habit. He dropped his 2am feed at 12 weeks and has not woken for food since then (he has been on a routine since 1 month and i am sure this helped him sleep through) I did try and feed him the first few times he woke but as i suspected he wasnt hungry.
I bough Gina Fords book and she advises letting him cry and checking at regular intervals. I have done this over the past week or so and some nights he goes right back to sleep after a few minutes but others it can last a good hour and half of checking and crying before he sleeps. There doesnt seem to be any noticeabel progress and I hate hearing him cry so much! I heard about PUPD method but I really think this will just wind him up more as he is a very spirited little man and I think constantly picking him up and putting him down will do more harm than good (plus he doesnt have trouble sending himself to sleep, he goes off to sleep himself at naptimes and bedtime within a few minutes with no problems). Its the habit I need to break and I wasnt thinking about trying the wake to sleep method as I have heard that this can help babies transition to the next sleep cycle and therefore not wake. Whta do people think about using this method and has it worked for anyone else? Thanks for reading
