Hey,
Well he had lots of checks and all sees well with Ds, which in one way sia  relief but which also in a way is not a relief as don’t know why his feeds dropped from a max of 4 oz to a max of one.
They plotted his weight on a chart..they said he was plodding a long nicely and this is a very very slight levelling off of the curve. They are putting him on a high calorie formula, a pharmacy near by will have them in tomorrow which I am glad about. They said for his size he is getting enough per day to keep him hydrated but not enough to get bigger. My concern was the drop in feeds, I feel there must be a reason, they said perhaps he had a slight viral infection that put him off his feeds but had no evidence of this.
They are going to monitor him so my PHN will call mid-week and I am back there this time next week, so I am glad about that.
I was in a  friends afterwards collecting my DD and she thought DS had a coating on his tongue which looked like one both her LO’s ahd when they got Thrush, If that was the case that might explain it, I have an app with GP tomor, (had made this in advance when his feeds starting to drop a little), so I will ask her to check that….would love to find a  cause for the feed drops.
I feel less worried knowing that the hospital is aware of it all and that he will be monitored.
Also his feeds seem a little better today…well in the evening but they are always in the evening so I will see how they are tomorrow.
I am glad he will be on a high calorie formula, with that and my determination to keep trying him with the bottle and to up his oz daily I feel optimistic.
Thanks for your messages, thoughts and hugs 

Glad you have a plan and are feeling more reassured.  {{{hugs}}}

Is there any sign of tongue tie?  That can make feeds difficult.

I think that's the same formula my nephew was put on when he wasn't gaining weight! Glad you have a plan too, and that they are keeping an eye on him.

Oh really Laura, good to hear of others who used it.
They only do it in ready made..will work out expensive but no bottle making.
Thanks also for the support!

Do you have to pay for the formula or do you get it on prescription?

Got formula y/day to keep me going but a mths worth arrived today..delighted to have it!
Still worried as feeds are the same…..just cant get more than 12 oz a day into him which pead said will keep him hydrated but not help him gain weight and weight gain is key to development at this stage.
GP was great..seeemed really concerned and wants him to come in weekly to be checked on the same scales, which is what I wanted, the hospital is far away, I will go there weekly too but nice to be going to a gp close by too.
He started coughing y/day…GP heard it and said his lungs were clear but it was a strong cough so if it gets worse I am to go straight in, think it was a lil stronger today so am planning to go in tomorrow before the weekend, maybe that why I am stills struggling getting the oz in!
Still worried but glad that he is being monitored…..the phn arrived today and want to check him weekly so with the hospital, gp and phn monitoring him he will be so closely watched which is relieving!

Oh forgot to say GP did think there was a coating on his tongue but not very pronounced so is treating him for oral thrush but not sure that is the case of the poor feeds!

Have you discussed the posibility of reflux with the Dr? I know you said you don't think so but silent reflux doesn't always have a lot of symptoms. My DD had a nasty sounding cough from birth, it went once we had her reflux under control, she was protecting her airway. For my DD, she had that cough, she hiccuped quite a lot, she was hard to wind and had wet sounding burps when she did. She was very happy and content and slept well, but around 9 weeks she suddenly dropped her intake by half (was always tricky to feed) and started really fussing, screaming, arching, wriggling, crying and just plain refusing to take any more after 2oz max. She has always slept well but we had her elevated from birth because DS was a refluxer.

The way he is with feeds just does make me wonder.

No-one has mentioened reflux at all..but I will discuss that now you say that, some symptoms ar familar, feed drops, he fusses and gags  and wriggles if we try to keep going beyond that (might take more the odd time), does have hiccups a bit, the cough is a wierd deep cough!
easy to wind though, rarely gets sick and burps dont sound wet..thanks though...I will def question that...how do they diaganose it..is there a way to know for def?

If it is silent reflux they don't spit up or get sick much - they swallow it back down again. Diagnosis is usually on history and symptoms and a meds trial will rule it in or out pretty quickly. Ranitidine is the usual first drug to try, it's been used for a long time in infants and doesn't seem to have any side effects (never noticed any with my two!). They do need to be on a decent dose of it though - at least 2mg per kg x2 per day in order for it to be a fair trial.
