eczema caused by allergy or teething?
« on: May 15, 2011, 08:43:00 am »
For about a week now I haven't had anything I wasn't allowed and strictly following the Failsafe diet.
I had a terrible night last night with every one to two hourly wakings and found a very red right cheeck this morning with dry patches under the right eye and lips. The other cheek seems fine.

Is this something I ate? Or could this be caused by teething?

Can't figure this out...I'm at a point where I nearly pray that DD would accept neocate (she doesn't, just screams and arches back)

Yes that sounds very much like teething!

DS gets really dry cheeks when he's teething, so I just use extra cream on them. It isn't eczema as that looks different on him, and is usually on his ankles, behind the knees, elbows, wrists and hands.

Her skin will calm down once the teething episode has passed  :)

Oh that's very reassuring, thank you. Would this explain all the night wakings too? It's just that DS was very different when teeting and he certainly didn't start as early as this. (DD is only 4.5 months old.)

She could get a tooth before 6 mo, it's not unusual!

Sounds like her teeth are moving under the gums which does cause a lot of discomfort and can contribute to night wakings  :(

At 4.5 mo there are loads of developmental things going on too, so that will unsettle some LOs and cause night wakings and/or short naps.

If there are any other signs such as patches of eczema or tummy trouble then it could be diet related (yours if she's EBF).

DS had plenty of 'teething' episodes well before anything appeared as his teeth moved below the gums, but they didn't last more than 2 or 3 days then he was back to normal  :)

Hopefully she'll be ok again in a day or so  :)
