Oh no, sounds like 2hours was too much for her! I think the shorter nap was working better.

I had to nap cut with DS and he was on a 1hr/1hr 15mins nap by 15months. But then it stayed the same for about a year before he was ready to cut it down any further. So nap cutting at this stage doesn't necessarily mean they'll cut it out totally any time soon.

So at your DD's age, DS slept around 1-2.15. He always had to be awake by 2.30 or he wouldn't settle well by 7/7.30pm. So if he took a while to settle at nap time I'd still wake him by 2.30 at the latest so some days his nap would be shorter than others but 1hr 15mins max and this worked well for him.

Maybe something similar would work for your DD?

I agree with trying the shorter nap but I would stick with it for a few days to give your LO time to adjust & to see if it makes any difference to her nights.

She's now singing in het cot. Am still gonna cap this nap at 1 hr 30 max and see. She's always not really needed 12 hrs at night ever and I think the long naps making it worse x

Kdee thank goodness you posted. So good to hear from another low sleep needs parent as I thought I was doing something horribly wrong. We r teething here I know but also she was getting far too much day sleep at two hrs. The day before yday she had no nap.... Just point blank refused so after n hour I just thought ok, let's just get on with the day.
She was fine and slept 7 to 6.40am without a peep. Yday cut nap to one hr but had to drive four hours up to Leeds to come n stay with my
Mum.... She didn't fall asleep in the car til 9.30 but again sttn til about 7.30. So she obviously handles OT better than UT n also needs less sleep than i thought by miles. So today gave her an hour, she fell asleep within 20mins so will see what happens and let u know. Thanks for the tips everyone

That's great the shorter naps are working  :)

I was in denial about how much sleep DS needed for ages but there's only so much the boy will sleep! I'd rather it was mostly at night so I always went with the shorter naps. Your DD sounds even lower sleep needs than DS so you might need to go shorter than 1hr...it sounds like she will drop it early. My friends DD needed to drop her nap at 18months  :o

How are things going now?

Terribly. She slept ok last night, few nw but put herself to sleep after two hours of crying at bedtime. She slept from 1 to 2.30 today and bed 7.30 and she's crying in her cot. The kid just won't go to sleep at bedtimes anymore tho she did seem tired and tired after her nap too. Am just fed up of these bedtime battles now and I'm getting told not to cut her nap down by so many people my head is spinning and am v v v tired. I know she's teething too which isn't helping. Ugh. Wish I knew what to do. Constant bedtime battles xx

Do you know what hun? If you think the nap cut / chop is worth a shot - do it.  You need to stick it out for a few days though.

Why not try a 45min nap?

I know, I sounded a bit stressed then. It's probably a lot to do with teething astonight she said teeth hurt and her sheets were soaked but she's also changing nap wise too which isn't helping but bedtimes r a mare x

((((((((Hugs ))))))) Huby. Sorry to hear you are having such a hard time. :(

I also think you should try cutting the nap. But isn't it better to wait  a bit until the pain subsides ? It sounds like she is suffering quite a lot with her teething. I personally never liked pushing M too hard when he was teething. Do you medicate at bt and at night time ? If so does it help at all?

Yes sorry I hadn't realised she was teething.  In which case maybe you just have to ride it out?

I personally thought that teething was around all.the.time with O that I made changes anyway but that's just me and my crazy sleeper! :P

Well I had her nap 1.5 hrs at 1pm today n She was happy all day and only took an hour to go to sleep rather than two n a half based on her two hr nap or late nap. She's absolutely low sleep needs anyway so that doesn't help. She's a horrendous teether absolutely the worst I've met bless her but we are nearly there, a few more weeks I reckon. Ouch poor dd.
Yea absolutely I medicate with calpol and ibuprofen at the same time use gels and granules. She suffers a lot at night....why is it nights though and not daytime so much? Thanks ladies please keep in touch it's keeping me saine.
Grants how's itching with m?

(((hugs)))

Teething is so much more painful at night when they are lying down.  Also they are more distracted from it when awake so probably don't notice the pain as much.

FWIW I could never figure out DS1's sleep needs during times of bad teething.  It was a nightmare, teething makes it seem impossible to get any sleep.  Just remember it ends, it does!  Then hopefully things will be more straightforward.  :)

Too true. These molars seem to taking forever. Seems so mean they have to go through this just to lose them again! X

I know, teething sucks.  I hate hate hate it!  I'm so thankful DS1 has all his teeth, but now DS2 is teething molars and I know he still has so far to go, and sleep is starting to suck with him.  Why does it have to be painful??  :(
