Can I use cow's milk in cooking?
« on: May 18, 2011, 16:37:18 pm »
DD is 8 months and I have some recipes that call for cow's milk in them...has anyone else used milk in cooking for their LOs? I use to think that I wasn't suppose to give her milk under one b/c of potential allergies, but perhaps its just b/c it's advised that they get their nutrients from BM.

UK guidelines are that we can use cow's milk in cereal and for cooking from 6 months, just not as a drink before 1 which is what we did - much easier at breakfast than making extra formula for cereal! Not sure what the recs in your area are - they do seem to vary a lot from country to country!

I'm in the US and I asked the same question of my ped around that same age.  He said it was fine to cook with cow's milk since he wasn't on a formula for milk allergy.  My DS does fine with I use cow's milk in my cooking, but the last time we tried to wean him to cow's milk as a drink, he had digestive upset - probably because it is a larger quantity than you'd use in your cooking.

Sure, as long as she has no intolerances to dairy, it's all good!  :)

Yup.  It's not a problem at all.  Just be on the watch out for food allergies but there's nothing evil about it lol!

Cows milk is all good in cooking from 6-7 months in NZ too :) Our DS loves homemade cheese sauce!
