How much does your 2.5 or 3 year old sleep?
« on: May 18, 2011, 18:30:27 pm »
Hello!  Just curious how all of the 2.5 and 3 year olds are sleeping these days.  Naps and night.  We seem to be staring to need less sleep over here and have been a bit inconsistent since dd arrived!  Most nights are 11.5 hrs and naps have been 1.5 ish (sometimes 2 hrs, sometimes only 1).  Bedtime has been inconsistent...sometimes he is taking ages to fall asleep, as he sings, plays, etc.  What are your routines like???

Hi, DS1's routine is like this:
7/7:30 awake
1/1:30 nap for about 1hr 15mins-1.5hrs
8/8:30 asleep

I notice that if he naps 1.5hrs it does take him longer to go to sleep at night.  He will sleep longer in the mornings sometimes if I let him, but I usually wake him by 7:30 so that he still goes down for a nap.  I have noticed lately that he is needing less sleep, though very recently his behaviour has been a bit of a mess so he might need a bit more again.  Kinda up and down at the moment.  :P

A - 6.30/7am
Nap - 1-2.15pm
Bedtime - 7.30pm

Sometimes he sleeps longer in the am but like martina I wake him usually at 7am as he still needs a nap. Sometimes he does not fall asleep until nearer 1.20pm ish but he is nearly always up by 2.30pm and we still try and keep bedtime to 7.30pm.

On days like tomorrow whenI am out and about he will have a short car nap i.e. 30/40 mins and bedtime will then be about 7pm.

My DD is almost 4 and when she was almost 3 she stopped napping.  She then slept about 12 hours per night but now as we get close to 4 yrs. old, she sleeps about 11.5.

DD has just dropped the nap (boo!) over the last month (she'll be 3 next month) so she's now asleep by 7pm at the latest & generally sleeping around 12hrs at night.

We've basically dropped the nap, barring the occasional car nap...and we tend to get about 11 hours overnight, sometimes 12 IF she falls asleep early enough, but I can't GET her to fall asleep any earlier than she will....regardless of what time I put her into bed.

She could certainly use a short nap but won't always oblige so I gave up trying. Her behavior is quite trying by the end of the day and combined with having a new baby in the house...it's been fun!

We get 13 hr nights here, sometime 13.5...

dropped the nap completely at this stage as even 30 min catnap meant singing till 9.30 or needing the toilet at least twice more after peeing before bed. Nowadays she sometimes wakes dry at 5am screaming for the toilet and then goes back no problem till her 13.5 hrs are done. Otherwise she is soaked through....

I wish I could turn back time and nap-drop with Oscar earlier....it was the thorn in the side of his sleeping for SOOOO long but he insisted on the nap.

Thanks everyone!  It looks like we are about average, then...about 13-14 hrs/day.

I think I have noticed that the days he naps longer (2 hrs or more) or later (I haven't been putting him down at exactly the same time every day...trying to get used to having two!!!) he is taking ages to fall asleep at night.  So, looks like I have to either keep the nap at 1.5 hrs or accept a later bedtime.

Oh well, I guess 12 hr nights and 2.5 hr naps couldn't last forever!!!

We are down to a 30 min nap at most, more like a "rest" time, but she will tack on to her nights instead and sleep at least 12 if not 13-13.5 hours a night.  The one day I accidentally let her sleep for an hour she was up singing way past bedtime though, so although she seems to need the total hours at night, the nap will screw it up!
