hi, Just started seeing a naturopath about DD's multiple food intols/digestive issues.  We both think there has been damage to her gut and likely to be a lot of  inflammation. The plan is to try and heal her gut a bit before we start addressing the food intolerances which means I stay on a strict diet (she is EBF) for time being.  I'm cutting most starches, grains, sugars incl fruit.  In addition to she recommended I take L Glutamine to help heal her gut.  Any experience using this? I am trying to read up about it and understand if it is right for us but am drowning in internet research.  any help is appreciated - thanks!

Found this for you: http://www.stopleakygut.com/healing.

There's a section near the bottom that mentions glutamine and its role in gut healing.

Don't know much about it either but when DH was having stomach issues a few years ago our ND told him to take it for gut healing as well.  So sounds like you are on the right track.  :)

Interesting! I wonder if children can/should take it as well? DS (will be two in a few weeks) has gut issues due to food intolerances and very low good bacteria in the gut. He's on a HIGH dose of Culturelle now but I wonder if L-glutamine could help too. Will ask our practitioner.

Jen - I hope it helps for you!

I asked DH and he said it was for promoting cell regeneration, so yes it would help in gut healing.

I did ask our holistic practitioner about it and she said it is sometimes used in leaky gut but that some recent studies show that it may not help as much as you would hope and therefore might not be worth taking. But that was just her opinion, of course!

Actually, I remember where else I read about it: in one of my thyroid books, to help heal and to reduce carb cravings. Gotta get me some of that! It's an amino acid, I think?

Thanks everyone. I think it is worth a shot - I ordered it today and am excited to give it a try.  Really hopeful it will help with her healing process.
