Freezer recipes that are grain/potato/milk/soy free
« on: May 22, 2011, 04:11:53 am »
For various reasons, we are trying to avoid all grains, potatoes, milk and soy. I have been trying to find some recipes to freeze, but I haven't been able to find much that doesn't include 1 or more of these ingredients. Does anyone have any recipes they would be willing to share? I have a couple if anyone is interested.

Yes there are loads, here's one:

Add a bit of chopped chorizo in for older babies or adults:  http://mamacook.blogspot.com/2011/03/spanish-pork-stew-for-babies-9-months.html

Is this for your baby or adults?

Oh, just thought about dahl.  This is probably inauthentic and for older kids or adults, add some mild (or stronger if you want) curry paste to your taste (assuming sweet potatoes are ok?)

You obviously don't have to serve it with rice or naan, you could serve it with some accompaniments made out of gram (chickpea) flour as that's not a grain.  Here's a recipe for a vegetable korma with chipattis.  I love chipattis:

There are  heaps in this cookbook: -   there are alot of grain recipes, but you can ignore those... as for potato just leave those out.

"Wholefood for Children" by Jude Berleau  and
"Coming hom to Wholefood" for the wholefamily by Jude Blereau

Most recipes are gluten/wheat  and dairy free, many are grain free or only have grain as a small component so you can leave it out.

One of my favourites is a coconut milk based chicken curry with homemade chicken stock, ginger and curry powder.

Thanks for the links. I will see if I can find those books. Sorry, I should have specified - I am looking for recipes for adults and a toddler (2.5 years). I have some health issues that require me at this time to avoid: potatoes, grains, rice, beans, lentils and other legumes, mushrooms, vinegars, and soy. I also am very limited as to what I can have for fruit. My son is MPI, so we must avoid all dairy. Basically that means we are limited right now to meats, veggies, spices, and some fruits. Most of the freezer recipes I am finding that don't contain grains or starches (or can be left out) have dairy and/or soy (some hidden) in some of the ingredients that add to the flavour, so to leave them out greatly alters the taste. I'm trying to find freezer recipes so that I can just toss them in the slow cooker, or pop it in the oven, reducing my prep time. Especially now that it is summer and we are gone a lot. Thanks for you help!  :)

I think from your list bolognaise would be ok.  Maybe substitute the mushrooms for finely cubed courgette (zucchini)?

Obviously you couldn't have with pasta but your son could and you could have sweet potato wedges (if that's allowed)?

Thanks ladies.

The bolognaise looks good. I will try substituting zucchini for the mushrooms. I need to limit sweet potatoes, but I could try it with some spaghetti squash. Does anyone have ideas what I could use as a substitute for the beef stock cube (the only kind I can get here has milk in it)?

Yes, I can have tomatoes.  :)

Could you use a bit of marmite/vegemite dissolved in water?

To be honest I'd miss out the beef stock cube if you can't eat it.  Especially if you include liver in the recipe it comes out really meaty anyway so the stock cube isn't totally necessary.  You could always add a bit of red wine if you want some more flavour?
