17 weeks - 2 NW to feed or not?
« on: May 23, 2011, 08:11:02 am »
DD 17 weeks. She is so up and down with nights, she has done a few nights of just one feed and also last week did 11 hours one night. Over the past few weeks though she has been waking at 12 and 4. She goes to bed at 630pm. When she wakes I feed her and she goes straight back to sleep. Is she using me as a prop? I did introduce a small amount of baby rice at docs advice so I am sure she should be able to go longer at night. We have also just got rid of swaddle as it started causing more problems so I suppose she could still be adjusting to sleeping back. Really my question is should i still feed when she wakes? My instinct is to carry on feeding whilst she is getting used to not being swaddled but would appreciate any advice to eliminate these NWs. Also just to add she goes into her crib awake for naps and bedtime. Thanks

She is very young and there is a major growth spurt at this age.  My LO was STTN prior to this age and then started waking 2x.  If she is taking a full feed, then she is probably hungry.  She will STTN again.

Despite the popular belief, baby rice does not help LOs sleep longer. :)  It actually can irritate many LOs and cause sleep disturbances.  She is very young.  Is there a reason your doc advised rice?

Thanks and good to hear it will hopefully change soon. Doc advised because of reflux issues. She is not a big feeder and will not take a bottle at all so I am EBF which I am pleased about. She seems really happy generally and goes off to sleep really well so hopefully she will get better at night.? X

Last night was bad. She woke at 11, 2 and 5am. DS who is two got woken by by DD at 5am and wouldn't go back to bed. I am so tired! DD did go back to sleep until 7 after I fed her at 5am. I really am praying this is GS as the whole house is sleep deprived!!!

What about using a thickener instead of rice?  http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=175036.0

Do you think the reflux is causing some wakings?

((HUGS)) I hope you get some rest.  Do you have white noise in your other Los room?
