9 mth old waking soon after being put to bed
« on: May 28, 2011, 19:19:07 pm »
Hello all,

My daughter is 9 months old and previously a good sleeper. She has had times of being troublesome with NW, but for the last few months has been an excellent sleeper.  However...

We've had my parents over for the last 3 weeks and her routine has been challenged a lot particularly afternoon nap, and sleeping in different B&Bs.  She now has trouble STTN, as she will wake anything from 1-3 hours after being put to bed, and seem wide awake for an hour or more. We struggle to pacify her during this time, which results in her screaming her head off a lot.  She will then wake 1-2 more times during the night.

She always has 2 naps a day, even though the last nap is erratic due to outings etc, so I realise this is most likely the problem.  However, I am now limiting our outings and today she got 1.5hr nap both am & pm, and this doesn't necessarily seem to help.  When we go out, her last nap is only 30 mins, but when at home she will mostly sleep at least an hour.

Is the problem likely to be OT, which is why she wakes up after only a few hours, and seems wide awake if not a little hyperactive.

Also, how should I deal with the NW at this age? Any sort of contact winds her up.

Thanks for any advice!

Can you post your routine in EAS format?

Wakings so close to bedtime are normally OT for us.

Her routine is pretty similar each day, the only variation is last nap depending on what we're doing, and could be 30/45mins or 1.5hr.  But this is what it is mostly like:
7am wake & bottle
8am eat b'fast
10am sleep
11.30 awake
12pm eat lunch
2.30 sleep
3.30 wake
5pm dinner
6pm bath
6.30 Bed

Last night, she then woke at 7.15pm (I thought OT), then also at 12am and was wide awake until 2am.  Slept til 6am, I gave her a small bottle (4oz) then she slept til 8am.  This is really unusual for her, and she is teething which doesn't help and she's been getting so much attention from my parents that she seems constantly hyper!  But the NW that last for over an hour and wide awake - any thoughts on why these occur?

Thanks so much for your help!!

I don't think you have enough A time. At this age, my LO was doing 3.5 hours after a decent nap and defintitely 3.5 hours before bed.
