Habitual night wakings vs need for feed
« on: May 29, 2011, 20:26:21 pm »
Hi all, I am new to this forum and have been trying to follow an EASY schedule for 3 weeks with some success. My 11 week old bottle feeds around every 3.5 hours hours in the day and takes on average 6 ounces. He has a feed usually at 6:45 and then is in bed for 7pm. He is a touchy baby but usually goes down okay as long as we have kept on top of nap times (which can be difficult). He has dream feed at 11pm and then wakes like clockwork at 3:30am every night. Normally we would stretch him to 4am as he is not crying as such - more grumbling and tossing and turning - before we get him up for the bottle. Last night I tried the soother to see if I could stretch him to 4:15 after waking at 3:30am (he normally rejects a soother!) and to my surprise he settled back to sleep until 6:50am. So! My question is,  has he been habitually waking and I am feeding him rather than just simply helping him get back to sleep. There will be 4am feeds where he takes 3 ounces only before returning to sleep and other nights where he takes 6 ounces. I would hate to be denying him the food if he needs it but I am not sure if I am just supporting an habitual wake-up. Help!!

PS He weighs around 6kg
