Mobility affecting sleep
« on: June 01, 2011, 07:27:44 am »
Any advice gratefully received!  My 11 month old had just began to sleep better, even a couple of 11 hour stints at night!  Then he started crawling!  For about 3 weeks now he has been waking up to 4 times a night as he has rolled over on to his tummy in his sleep, woken up and sat himself up.  The trouble is he doesn't seem to be able to lay back down resulting in me having to 'rescue' him in the night.  I do this with minimum fuss and he goes straight back to sleep but it has been going on for a few weeks now and he doesn't seem to have learnt how to lie back down.  He can roll from front to back but seems to have 'forgotten' how now he has mastered the new trick of being able to sit up.  Any advice on how to teach him rather than relying him relying on me?

I am having the same problem with my 10 month old who has begun crawling and pulling himself up on everything. The issue is that he doesn't know how to sit back down once up. He does this at least 4 times a night and has sometimes been up to 8 times. It has been about 2 1/2 weeks and I am going crazy. He has never been a full night sleeper but I just can't do it any longer. When you figure out what to do...let me know too!
Thanks!

Sympathise with you shb0550!  Just when you think it is getting better, they do something else that disrupts sleep.  My LO hasn't even started standing yet so i will probably get over this little bump then have that to contend with!!

How is it going now?  Alexandra is rolling around in her crib at all naps and bedtime!  She has a very tough time settling herself... I have had to APOP a lot in the last couple of weeks to help her out!

Fingers crossed LO has been a bit better.  I have been putting him in his cot for naps and not even trying to lay him down, just leaving him to get on with it.  As long as he doesn't cry I haven't gone in even though i know he isn't lying down and after a while he fell asleep.  I think leaving him to figure it out for naps has helped with the night wakings.  If he wakes at night i go in as he is usually crying then but the wakings have been a lot less.  Days have been a bit messed up as it can take him anything from 1/2 hour to 1 hour to fall asleep for naps as crawling round his cot is far preferable to sleeping!  I think we are slowly getting there, until the next challenge!!!
