Wondering what age you tried strawberries for you lo?

Personally, we gave them to A at 1yr, maybe just after. He didn't have a reaction (thankfully bc he eats them all the time!), but I watched out for anything the first month or so after he'd started on them.

We've been very lax around here, Sabs, but also have no history on either side of any allergies... We started around...7-8 mos? We also live - literally - right in the midst of strawberry fields, so it's hard to avoid! YUM!

Pretty lax here too, I think F probably tried them by 8mos. No reactions here either.

I fully waited until 18 months with my girls and with E I had the same plan but accidentally gave them in a fruit puree. She's been fine so far, so only time will tell now. I continue to give them to her although only in the pureed fruit cups as they've been cooked and my Dr said that helps break them down a bit.

I gave at 8 months and no reaction but she doesn't really like them! I just add one to her smoothies now

We did around 8 months and got a reaction, so waited and then again at around of 18 months and that went ok.

I wouldn't think there's an issue after 6 months, just leave it a while if there is a reaction. I think my LO had them around 8 months.

Shat kind of reaction for strawberries? I gave some strawberries to my LO and his skin got slightly red around his mouth. So i decided not to give him anymore, but a few days I went berry picking and got some fresh ripe berries, I peeled them from seeds and gave him a little bit and he seems perfectly fine so far.

Emma was six months in mid strawberry season here and was fine....
Oscar was over a year for the freshly picked version (born April) and also fine.

I think strawberries are one of those allergies which are really common but often grown out of quickly from memory?

I don't think there is any need to wait. Just some babies react to them, it's just one of those foods to keep an eye on your baby to make sure they don't get a rash after eating I think.

In PL people are terrified of giving strawberries to kids under a year, sometimes under 2!!!

I think around 7-8 months. Didn't even realize that the recommendation was to wait until after I had already given them to him multiple times!!

Canada just removed all recommendations for waiting on anything with regards to solids... apparently, delayed introduction has nothing to do with whether or not a LO will have an allergy.. they will or they won't regardless of age.

That said, strawberries can be acidic... I am waiting until about 8-10 months

I think the waiting is suggested if there's a history of allergy with a certain food; otherwise, it's up to the parents and however the LO handles that particular food.

Apples (I've found out) are more acidic than tomatoes. Go figure

I found the same thing with apples! They are recommended as a first food, right down to 4 months here in Canada... she was miserable after eating them! She's fine now, but I still warm them for her or she gets a wicked tummy ache and a bad case of the toots

Over here we are recommended to give berries from ~8 months. We haven't tried them yet as DS has reflux and I have heard they can cause flare ups

My HV told me I could give DD1 "anything" except honey from 6m!!
I gave them both strawberries well before 1yo xx

I guess on the assumption we were eating a healthy diet yk? Definitely no restrictions on dairy, eggs etc, the first I heard of waiting to give LO certain things was when I came on here! Luckily DD1 has an iron stomach, nothing reacts with her!

DD2 is much more sensitive, I had to be more reticent with her.

Yep I also give everything from the get go! Eggs, dairy,meat, fish I don't think there is anything that she hasn't eaten! Oh I haven't given nuts or honey....but my mum but her hand in her mouth while she eating pistachios and she didn't have a reaction, but will wait until she is one before I try properly!

Erm I think DD2 has had toast with a bit of peanut butter (mine that she nicked!) but I haven't gone out of my way to give her nuts. No allergies in our family fingers crossed so I'm not too worried about it...
DD1 doesn't really have them simply because she doesn't like them.

OH MY GOD!I had no idea about the strawberries thing. DD has had then a fair bit in the last week (chopped up for finger food) and has had her first eczema flare in 2 weeks just yesterday. Her tummy is covered in new patches of eczema and for the past 3 nights have had 2 hour long NW. I was getting despondant thinking that the dairy fee trial was a waste of time but perhaps strawberries are the culprit here?

I cant believe she is under the care of a dietician and we were not told of this.

Also been giving blueberries. Are they ok?

Blueberries should be okay, but for sure the strawberries could be the cause of the rash!

I'd agree that the strawberries likely caused it. If she's not otherwise grumpy you can take them out and wait until she clears and then try again. My aunt was allergiv to strawberries as a child and quickly outgrew it.

Ironically (or thankfully) E is incredibly sensitive and already has a list of foods to avoid but cooked and pureed strawberries arejust fine.

Don't forget strawberries in a jar of baby food are generally cooked so it changes the composition. Some can tolerate storebought purees but not physical cut up raw strawberries.

ds had peanut butter on toast from about 8 months with no reaction. Dairy, well cooked eggs, meat, pasta, etc all ok from 6 months. Supposed to avoid honey, whole nuts (choking risk), high salt/sugar foods, etc but apart from that anything goes. Citrus fruits, strawberries and raspberries and kiwis can all cause reactions

Blueberries are ok Emma. I think there are several reasons why people avoid strawberries. One is they tend to be one of the fruits that are very highly sprayed with pesticides. Also, I think I remember Eloise saying awhile back that they are very high in salicylates, so if that is something you think your LO is sensitive too then strawberries could definitely be causing problems. They are just one of those things some babies have more trouble with unfortunately (and too bad because they all seem to love them!

We were told peanut butter is ok from ~8 months and Blueberries seem relatively safe on our DS tum - they certainly haven't flared up his reflux.
