K gets up at 7ish or 630. The book says to start solids with breakfast the first week at 9. I'm starting solids this weekend. Any suggestions?

9am? Says the book

I'm gonna start solids this week and K really eats pretty well, he's teething now and less than a week shy of 6 mos. I read about starting at breakfast the first week, then breakfast and lunch the next week and then 3rd week, all three meals. I read about moving proven foods to the later meals etc. but breakfast for us is early. Does this mean I should start at the next feed? After he starts to take maybe an ounce at least, do I knock an ounce off his bottle? What are good starter foods? Help! I"m planning on making me own, so just need suggestions on what foods to consider.
Thanks for any info comin my way!

I always did solids 1h after the bottle or breastfeed, whenever that was.

Don't change the amount of formula he gets, as that's still the main source of his nutrition until 12 mo.  Over the next few months, the amount he takes for both bottles and solids will change, but for now, bottles take precedence.

DS tried rice cereal first and hated it, so then I went to pears.  They're very gentle on the tummy and DS loved them!  You can also do apple, sweet potato, or squash if you don't want to do rice cereal.

Here are some links that I think will help you (the FAQ section is fabulous!):

That helps loads! Thank you. I think I've decided on either squash or apples or carrots. I'll give it to him an hour after his bottle and see what he thinks. THank you and I'm so excited to get started!

Hi there!  In addition, there are some great weaning guidelines here too:

The simpliest way to think about it I find is to think of you LO's milk feeds at the E part of EASY, while solids are part of the A time.  Milk still comes first and will continue to be most important until your LO is a year, therefore you don't want to decrease it in favor of solids.  Sometimes after 9+mos milk intake will start to decrease but until then remember that milk is the primary source of nutrition and solids are for fun.  :)
