I think for us there are two things - firstly our dinner is really close to the bedtime routine - so it's quite quickly one to the other and there isn't much time for playing anyway.  Secondly DS is dog tired by that time of night after being up in the night every night for ther last three years!!! :P  Actually he does get hyped - mainly by DH and he goes loopy - but I have been firm since he was little about quiet time before bed, but like Claire said if he starts to go crazy it's bedtime routine quick sticks!

So interesting night last night. He was actually asleep by 8:00pm so that's a good thing. Then he was awake from 12:30 until 2:30 so not such a good thing. But he slept until 7:40! I think some SA has really set in with him. He used to just need to see me at his NWings and the past two nights he is actually wide awake and saying "I need Mommy sit chair". So he wants me to stay with him. But it's like he won't fall back into a sleep because he is constantly making sure I am still there. Last night it probably didn't help that he unplugged his nightlight before he went to bed and I never noticed when I went in to check on him before I went to bed. So when he woke up, he was freaking out. He is quite scared of the dark but that doesn't explain the previous night of being awake around the same time for an hour. Oh and he only napped for 1hr40min yesterday and he woke on his own.
