To tweak or not to tweak.....
« on: June 10, 2011, 04:22:57 am »
DS turned 2 yesterday. We have been lying on the floor until he went to sleep but this week left the room and he loves it. He doesn't want us in there :o He generally chatters away to himself with a bit of crying..more along the lines of a mantra with the some real cries which we go in for, give him his cup in the crib then say goodnight and leave.  Really we're still working out what to leave and what to go and comfort for but we're getting there.

Anyway, before we started this he was taking up to an hour to actually go to sleep at night. Naps are no bother. Since we started it's similar but maybe shorter some nights. My gut says that he needs a tweak but my gut also said to take it slower with leaving the room and I was dead wrong! Lol. I'm not sure if its UT, OT or just that he seems to be on the cusp of a language leap. Should I give him more time to get used to getting to sleep without anyone in the room or tweak now?

He usually has about a 5 hr morning A time
1 1/2 to 2 hour nap. Often longer if had a bad night.
5 1/2 A time to bed
He then sleeps about 10.5 hrs

He starts off happy as a lark but then it progresses to what I would call a mantra but dh would call it play crying. I'm reluctant to cut the nap. I just can't decide if he might be UT or OT. He said he was tired at bed and yawned then rubbed his eye. How do you know at this age? :P

Thanks:)

Hi there...

Personally I've found as my LO's get older it's harder to distinguish between UT & OT  :P!

Sounds like you've made some progress on getting him to sleep.....are you still staying in the room even if he's mantra crying? I would leave him to self-settle if he's babbling/mantra crying. How long have you been lying on the floor in his room?

What time is his wake-up/nap time/BT?

I would say his nap length looks ok for his age....it could be a developmental leap if his speech is improving.....this can lead to a phase of wonky sleep.
