bottle to sippy
« on: June 13, 2011, 02:06:07 am »
DS is 10months and has lost total interest in his bottle during the day.  The only time he wants anything to do with it is first thing in the morning and before he goes to bed for the night.  Around when is a good age to leave the bottle and move on to the sippy cup.  He drinks out of it with meals but hasnt yet taken the place of a bottle.  Just wondering everyone's opinion.

IMO I think you can move onto the sippy. It sounds like he's really comfortable with it. Is your concern that he's not going to get enough of his milk feeds? You may find he can even move towards a normal cup, you could try that at meals if you feel ready. My DS started to use a normal cup at meals very early and we only use the sippy for going out and for water at naps and bed time. We breastfed and never used a bottle...

How much milk is he geting in 24 hours? Keep an eye on his intake, 20oz is the minimum he should be getting but that does include the dairy in his food so you can always increase cheese, yoghurt etc. I would keep the morning and bedtime bottle for now to keep the milk intake up, and use the sippy in the day. By the time he is 1 then he should be used to milk in a sippy and then you can transition the morning and bedtime milk to sippys.

HTH!

He has about 16-18oz in 3 bottles but he also eats cheese, formula added cereal, yogurt, and 2oz of cow's milk (whole) in a sippy everyday.
