5 mo and many wakings
« on: June 10, 2011, 04:00:37 am »
I have a 5 month old son. The past two weeks he has been waking up every 2-3 hours. I'm super exhausted so here goes with me trying to make any sense with getting my questions across...
he's breast fed. We follow the 4 hr EASY, he's still swaddled, which tonight i'm trying the one arm out. (fingers crossed). I don't need to do PU/PD with him as he goes right  to sleep.
Lately i assumed he was going through a hunger/growth phase with all the random wake ups at night, so i started feeding him a bit more. ugh.. to realize that i don't think that was the problem. I unfortunately  might have started accidental parenting with him.. I'm also concerned that his recent wake ups are due to teething, but i don't see any teeth coming in so i'm not sure what the problem is. (Though he's showing all signs of teething, without any white little teeth arising. it's been almost 1.5 months of this)
He'll wake up at 10 30 ish fussing, into cry, i'll feed him in hopes of  getting him full for the night sleep.  At  the 1030pm feed he isn't even hungry lately, then wakes again 12 30 or 1 30am and super hungry. 430 or 530 fussing, but i can't seem to get him back to sleep without the breast...He will then start chatting for a bit . Sometimes fall back to sleep and  sometimes not. Lately we're getting into early awakenings. I've darkened the room as best as possible.. Unfortunately he sleeps in our room in his crib as we don't have another room for him.
so my gut is saying the night wake ups might have been related to teething pain, and then got out of hand as i started feeding him
plus his feeds during the day lately have  turned into a feed every 3.5 hours now for some reason, so i know i need to get back on track on the 4 hr plan..

overall his best nights were 2 wake up nights. That hasn't happened in ages..
I'm not even sure where to start at this point.
His naps during the day so far are great. His activity time is always 2 hours, accept for morning before 1st nap only 1hr and 15minutes which i'm slowly trying to change. He just gets tired so quickly..

lots of info here. any suggestions?

Just wanted to say we are having pretty much the same issue here with my 4.5 month old. So no advice, just wanted to let you know you are not alone :)
