My son is 11 month today.  Yippee. Except that I thought my time posting on these advice sites would be done by now... alas it is worse than ever (or at least it feels that way).

DS has been a fairly poor sleeper - baby whisperer has solved napping problems for me, but early waking (never slept later than 5am) not yet broken.  We have an EASY that seemed to work, and had finally got into an apparent rhythm of about 2.5 hours in naps with a nighttime sleep of about 7pm to 5am.

wake 5am
E 6am bottle; 7am solids (though he is an absolutely disinterested eater - but i guess that's another story)
A
S 8.30-9am
wake 10 - 10.40

E 11.30am solids snack; 12.30pm bottle (or vice versa)
A
S 1.30-2pm
wake 3-3.30pm

E 5pm dinner
A 6pm bath/ wind down/ bottle
S 7pm

This lasted about 3 weeks and we were pretty happy with it all... then 2.5 weeks ago we moved from hot, humid Cambodia back to a chilly Australia.  I expected a little bit of adjustment - lots of new things for us all...

Currently, we have an early evening wake from 8.30-9.45pm, lasting a good 20-30 minutes, with pretty solid screaming and then another wake from 1.30-4am lasting at least 1.5 hour - usually closer to two hours, with increasingly spirited crying to screaming.  We are staying with family at the moment, so we are pretty solidly APing him back to sleep so as to give ppl around us some sleep.

I have no idea what the problem is. He is teething... Medication has not changed the situation much at all - and in any case 2.5 weeks seems a long time for teeth pain (i can only see one coming thought, top front) and certainly too long to be medicating every night.  We have tried feeding him at the late waking - a couple of nights it worked, a couple of nights not.  He had been quite happily of the night feed for many, I really don't think he is hungry.  I thought perhaps a growth spurt - but 2.5 weeks later that feels a bit like clutching at straws. Could just be bad coincidence that the 2-1 nap transition is coming, though none of the 3 scenarios suggested fit my boy. He is not refusing any naps.  He has been self-soothing to nap - though in the last couple of days this has been less successful too - probably because we are so determinedly APing him at nighttime (shhing/ rocking/ patting).  One night he got himself back to sleep after waking around 4.45am - so I know he knows how to do it.

His new room is not that different to the old one, though the temperature has changed considerably and that means he must sleep in PJs and under bedclothes where previously he slept in a singlet and no bedclothes, with a room air conditioned to pretty chilly.  We have experimented with different clothing to make sure not too hot/ too cold.  Nothing appears to work.  I have tried a couple of different formulas to see if that's the cause (shouldn't have given up breastfeeding i guess) but changing formula has had no effect.  He is on exactly the same time routine as he was on in Cambodia (ie the time change/jetlag effect was zero).

Any ideas?  My husband and I are very rapidly running out of steam

Thanks so much.

Hi there

Sorry things aren't going so well for you! DId all of these NWs start as soon as you moved or did they happen before the move too?
The only thing that I can think of is that the early night wakings can/could be an indication of being OT. Have you ever tried an earlier BT to see if that helps?
WHen he wakes, what is your response..ie leave to see if self soothes or go in right away?
In reponse to your comment about teeth pain...my DD's has lasted well beyond 2 weeks, so it could very well be that! I know, that doesn't help much. ;)

You also said that he is having a harder time self soothing for naps..could this be him having a hard time adjusting to the changes and just needing the extra support?

Also, just wondering if you have seen this? http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=52878.0
Have you tried capping one of the naps to say, about an hour to see if that helps with the late NWs?

Ok, I am just throwing out thoughts here. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
Hopefully someone else can take a look at your post and maybe come up with something else.
