Is my baby heading towards the 2:1 already?
« on: June 16, 2011, 19:22:01 pm »
Hi all,

My DD is 9 months and 2 weeks old, this is her EASY today -

6.50 - Awake
10.45 - Nap
12 - Awake (not sure if her poo woke her up)
3.45 - Down for nap
4.30 - Asleep
5 - I woke her up so she wasnt UT for bedtime
7.30 - Asleep

She was on 3 hours 40 Activity time but this past week she has been cutting her nap times. It varies a little everyday but she is taking a while to settle for her 2nd nap and it's late in the day for her to sleep for longer.

Is my DD heading towards the 1 nap a day already do you think? Has anyone got any advice on how i could improve my EASY?

Thanks for reading  :) x x x

I would not do the transition just yet  :-\

Maybe rather cut the first nap to 45 and do some more physical activities in the day, to get her more tired.

Hello,

I am not wanting to start the transition now, i think my DD is leading herself to that. If i cut the 1st nap to 45 minutes wont that make her OT? x x x

Not necessarily. Fighting a nap and then not having (which will probably happen in a few days) it will get her OT. :)

She is really active during her Activity time, swimming, softplay, music, crawling etc....

So if i cut her 1st nap to 45 mins and then she fights her 2nd nap she will be having less sleep than she is now, surely this will cause OT? x x x

If the first nap is cut, she probably won't be fighting the second nap. Also remember, that at 9 months, the need for sleep decreases quite a bit.

Hi just wanted to add that our routine was pretty much the same as this at 9 months too. It took us until about 11.5 months for my DD to have some 1 nap days but we still did 2 naps every few days if she got OT. I carried on doing long am and short pm nap as doing it the other way round never worked for us. My DD just used to still refuse or short nap for her pm nap too! So I stuck to long am nap and slowly pushed her A time out when she was ready to get the morning nap later and later. I then had to shorten the pm nap each time though or make BT slightly later if she was UT. Eventually the CN got so short that she could drop it and have 1 long sleep over lunchtime. HTHs. Hi there!  Agree with Steffi.  You shouldn't get second nap refusal just yet after a shorter morning nap.  You're a lot more likely to get it when they have a long morning nap  :-*

I see. We are starting to get some NW now, she woke 40 mins after she first went to sleep and then again after another 40 mins i'm guessing that she's OT.

Sorry for sounding thick but should i still keep increasing her A time even tho i'll be cutting her first nap short? Should i put her down for her 2nd nap sooner?

She isnt refusing her 2nd nap, it's just taking her longer to go to sleep which means its a late nap and not leaving a lot of Activity time before her bedtime x x x

Just following along as we are getting a bit of pm nap refusal too - or late naps. (Think we just need a tweak but interested as I can see this will be us soon)

I wouldn't push the middle A-time too long if you cut the first nap. Otherwise it's too late for BT as well.

Good luck!

That is exactly what used to happen to us if I cut C's am nap. She would just not sleep well in the pm no matter what A time I tried. So we stuck with a good long am nap for as long as she wanted and then a short pm cat nap. I know most people do short am and longer pm though, but that is what worked best for us.

Oh I know hun it is an absolute nightmare! I ended up having to cut the CN to 30 mins, then 20, then 10 and make BT later to avoid UT. Also our days were much longer than normal during this stage, so she wasn't going to sleep until about 8pm due to not being able to fit everything in and a late CN. I think that is quite common during the 2:1 transition though. I do think short am and longer pm nap would be easier to do, it just didn't work for us.
