So we stuck with a good long am nap for as long as she wanted and then a short pm cat nap. I know most people do short am and longer pm though, but that is what worked best for us.
This is what I am findin! DS wants to do a big 2hr am and a shorter pm...but then
But she is taking her catnap too late in the day Bex and is then UT for her bedtime
we are getting this too spleenie! (((HUGS))) I am not looking forward to this 2-1 business eeek

I just havent got a clue when to put her down  :(

I dont understand this whole 2:1 business.

Why is it better to have a shorter AM and a longer PM nap?
Do i forget about building her Activity times up now?

So confused and anxious about tomorrow x x x

Just try to relax and go with it as much as possible. See what works best for your LO. Have you read this... http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=163278.0  It is really helpful giving you the different ways of coping with 2:1 transition.

I think short am nap is slightly easier to fit everything in because you will then need to do a shorter A time until the pm nap (due to a short am nap). Does that make sense?  :-\ I guess either way it is hard to fit everything in though.

So for us our day went...

7am wake up
S- 10.30 - 12.30
S- 4.00 - 4.30
BT - 7.15/7.30

But then as C's A times increased and the CN got later so did BT and then I had to start cutting the pm nap to preserve BT. Eventually her am sleep was at 11.30/12.00 and we couldn't fit in a CN so it got dropped and we did some slightly early BT to avoid OT. This took us months to get to though and we are still not perfect!

I am so unsure on what i am doing. I know she needs a short AM and a long PM nap but i dont know how this process ends up being a 1 nap a day situ.

Any ideas? x x x

Oh I wish I could be more helpful hun. I am exactly in the same boat as you and am so lost! We are having massive nap refusals in the afternoon andDS likes a long AM....sigh. I think I am going to try to cap his naps (both) at around 1hr15/1hr30 I can feel my anxiety levels sky rocketing all over again with this!! You are doing fab though, at least you have started taking that step. Each day I cave and let DS sleep too long causing a mess of an arvo and night

I guess if you want the long PM and you are not getting it just keep slowly stretching those A times to get her more tired, it is easier to extend a nap if your LO is still tired than UT if that makes sense...well for me anyway.

Hi hun will come back on tomorrow for a longer reply as it is late now. :) Just wanted to say if your LO has taken a short am nap she will probably need a shorter A time after to get your long pm nap in. You end up dropping the am nap when it is down to about 10 mins and then just bring the pm nap forward so your day will be like mine is now which is...

wake 7.00
A - 5 hours
S - 12.00 - 2.00
A - 5 hours
BT - 7.00

If you read the link I posted I am pretty sure it explains about how the different ways of doing things works. HTHs. Hope you have a good night.

Hey Spleenie, I see you've got more details and questions here in this thread than you do on the 2-1 thread. Bex answered it nicely - if you have a short AM nap you SHORTEN the middle A time because with less sleep she will be more tired. Then you let her have a nice long nap in the PM.So yes, you stop pushing the A times out! My los could both handle about 3hrs on a 45min nap (at 6.5months J could do 2hrs45 but by the time he was ready to start cutting the AM nap shorter he could do 3hrs15).

As you go further into the transition, you shorten the AM nap and she will (hopefully!) tack that loss sleep onto her PM nap too - it's all preparing her to go to one nap. Eventually your AM nap might end up to be only 20mins or maybe even shorter - just enough sleep to get them by so that they can do their big nap. Then at some point you'll be able to drop that CN and have one nap in the middle of the day - for a start she'll still need 2 nap days every few days to keep OT at bay.

You are getting nice PM naps usually but I'd suggest trying to shorten that middle A time a bit and see if you still get long naps. Then your day might fit together a bit more smoothly with naps not going as late in the day.

Does that make sense?

Hi hun, just came on to give you a bit more info but Jenny has said it far better than I could. Hope your past couple of days have been good? I am off to the 2:1 transition thread with a whole new issue that 1 nap is causing! Is nothing ever easy! ::)

Aw, i hope things get sorted out for the both of you!

Not sure why she woke up lastnight, think it may possibly have been for the rest of her milk as she was settled after that.

Katelyn has never been a big napper so this is all new to me, i really appreciate the help and advice that you are giving me!

Today's EASY -

6.50 – Awake
10.40 – Nap 1
11.25 – Awake
3.10 – Nap 2
4.10 – Awake
8ish - Asleep
