I am so unsure on what i am doing. I know she needs a short AM and a long PM nap but i dont know how this process ends up being a 1 nap a day situ.
Hey Spleenie, I see you've got more details and questions here in this thread than you do on the 2-1 thread. Bex answered it nicely - if you have a short AM nap you SHORTEN the middle A time because with less sleep she will be more tired. Then you let her have a nice long nap in the PM.So yes, you stop pushing the A times out! My los could both handle about 3hrs on a 45min nap (at 6.5months J could do 2hrs45 but by the time he was ready to start cutting the AM nap shorter he could do 3hrs15).
As you go further into the transition, you shorten the AM nap and she will (hopefully!) tack that loss sleep onto her PM nap too - it's all preparing her to go to one nap. Eventually your AM nap might end up to be only 20mins or maybe even shorter - just enough sleep to get them by so that they can do their big nap. Then at some point you'll be able to drop that CN and have one nap in the middle of the day - for a start she'll still need 2 nap days every few days to keep OT at bay.
You are getting nice PM naps usually but I'd suggest trying to shorten that middle A time a bit and see if you still get long naps. Then your day might fit together a bit more smoothly with naps not going as late in the day.
Does that make sense?
