So he was only getting about 2hrs of day sleep at this age and it was ok? Any NWs?
I tried shortening DDs A's yesterday and that was an epic failure so I think I might go the other direction but I'm not sure how much/little sleep she needs. I'm almost at the point of I dont care what we have to do during the day to get rid of the NWs.

smurfette,

im watching this with interest as our DS is a month younger than your LO but exactly the same is happening. roughly two NWs a night (we have it now so he just takes a sip of water from a botttle for about 10secs and goes over again, but the EW are crazy, this morning it was 450am and that was him for the day! i tried to put him back over for an hour but to no avail. and this after getting 550am out of him for 2 days in a row. Kara gave us that advice which we tried re the nap times and we are sticking to them, but sometimes it just seems hopeless as the goal posts are constantly moving with his WU times, how does this affect his nap times, will he then be UT/OT etc etc. there always seems to be smth!

so sorry i cant help but exactly the same thing is happening to us, if i stumble across any magical solution ill be sure to let you know

What happened when you shortened the nap?  Which nap did yo shorten?

We don't often get tons of NWs.  Mostly EWs.  Don't get me wrong, we do have NWs from time to time.  But they are not chronic.  Mostly when teething.  We have actually been getting the most sleep ever, by just pushing to 1 nap.  From about 9 months to 12.5, we struggling with EWs and short naps.  That is why I stuck to set times.

You do have to find what works for your LO though.  Some of the advice I was given worked and some of it didn't.  There are also so many variables to work around.  teething, developmental milestones, etc.

I tried shortening the A times, not naps. I'm going to try it again b/c she surprisingly went down well for the first nap, but it's been the 2nd nap that has been causing all the problems. I keep getting 30-40 min naps and I'm thinking this is why I'm getting the NWs.
BUt I can't figure out how to get a good 2nd nap.

We always needed a really short A time for the 2nd nap.  Much shorter than others were doing.

Yup, that's what it seems to be here too. Like Emma said-our A time was too long when she didnt take a good PM nap.

Other than that some bubs just are EWers. DS is. Some just liek to wake early and no amount of tweaking makes any difference.
I'd just like to add that I am coming to learn that this is very true.  We've had 5.5 months of EWing now & I have tried & tried to change it in all sorts of ways.  I am still trying in fact, by pushing out & shortening our AM nap.....& so far it still hasn't made a bit of difference, in fact our EW's have got even worse.  I think I need to accept that our DS is just an early riser & nothing I do will change it.
