I would go with APOP for a few days, it does sound like OT has crept in. It is easy to happen...i think we are heading that way at the moment so I am treading very carefully! (HUGS) x

Do you think he might just be incredibly and chronically OT? Should I maybe AP a few naps over the next few days to see if I can get him caught up a bit?

Yes and Yes ;)  I would give him a couple of days of AP naps to catch him up, let him sleep whenever and as much as he wants and see if a few days helps!

Will all the APOP undo all of our sleep training? Is there any way to avoid it?

No, not if baby is OT.  It may take a couple days to get back on track, but you won't have to start over ;)

Thanks Kara :) we were up till 10:30(!!!) last night at the wedding, not helping the OT I'm sure, so he's napping in the wrap now. Hoping to keep him asleep for an hour +, we'll see! He'll only stay asleep that long if I stay in a dark room... Kinda depressing but as long as it's not every day....

Oh, and we are in BC too :)

Am I right to assume that I should keep out activity low key too? Try not to get him OS? I think I'm going to go back to early bedtimes for a bit too. I *was* putting him down at 5:30 because of his horrid naps but in the past few weeks have pushed it to 7pm with the hope it might make things better... I don't think it did...

I have tried AP naps to get Jude caught up on sleep but it hasn't helped us! I usually do this when we are going somewhere and I need him to able to stay awake and be happy! I feel like he is just a chronic cat-napper!

It does sometimes backfire lol....but usually they work well for us re night wakings. We do sometimes get STTN and EW, but I don't mind if I don't have to get up through the night :P

So I AP's like a pro today! lol. First nap was in the wrap, 1hr20min. 2nd nap he went down in his bed then I nursed him back to sleep when he woke at 30 mins, and cuddled him in my bed for a total of 1hr30mins or so (with a 20min or so 'gap' in the middle).

We slept a little late too, due to the late night. We got up at 8am, so we skipped the 3rd nap and went right to bed! So far so good. Early BT's generally work well for us, and I think trying to push BT later is what's got him so OT. Well, that combined with the short naps. DH wants his BT to be later so he can see him more after work, but for now he'll just have to suck it up! lol. His NW's have gotten out of control with a 7pm bedtime... obviously it's doing him no good!

How long should I APOP the naps for? 1 more day? 2? To avoid creating props of course...

I would APOP the naps until you feel he is not OT anymore. For us it is usually a few days...it can be weeks if your LO is severely OT, but I don't think you are in that boat. If you get a great night sometimes the next day you can start fresh. I would play it by ear and just go with your gut...you know your LO best :-*

We did 6-6.30 BT for a long time esp after dripping the CN. I am now in the process of needing to let DS to go to bed later, and its so hard to get my head around after all those early BT.

Is there anything I can look for to tell if he's not OT any more? longer naps on his own? less NW? He's only been down 3 hours and he's been up once already  ::)

Fun fun fun!

He will stop the constant NW and will sleep more soundly in general at night and for naps... will have better luck transitioning from one cycle to the next without crying out at all :)  It's a few days of work in this house too :)

As Kara says! :) Plus for us DS was just happy, he didn't wake from naps crying, or get grumpy 1/2 way into his A times. He was more relaxed in general In our house with Z being touchy OT usually means very sensitive to loud noises or surprises etc.

I have tried AP naps to get Jude caught up on sleep but it hasn't helped us!

Have you done ALL naps or just one here and there? We're trying all for a few days... will let you know how it works!

This morning we kinda slept till 8. Well, he was up at 2:30, 4:15, the 5:30, then 6:20, then up for the day at 8... somewhere in there I brought him to bed! Its so hard to handle so many NW (he was also up at 9:30pm) when DH is away. I'm so tired. And he kept waking REALLY upset. Teeth? Maybe I should give him tylonol when he wakes for his night feed (2:30am)? Anything for a few good nights for me and him to catch up! I'm nearing exhaustion....

Any way, I'm thinking he'll want to go back down soonish, he's been up for an hour and a half. Prepared to APOP all those naps away, lol. Got my books and magazine stash ready for those marathon wrap-bouncing-in-the-dark sessions :P

What are some age-appropriate examples as to what is to stimulating (in general, I know all LO's are different)? Are books still OS? Toys on the play mat?
