could i have some more eyes please
« on: July 02, 2011, 19:02:36 pm »
Hi all, I'm a little confused as to whats going on with kian. He's been on one nap now for a while but he's been a little inconsistant with what times he will go down. He goes to nursery 3 days a week mon-wed and goes down for a nap at 12:30 and will sleep till 2pm, and wakes happy. However recently at home he's getting more reluctant and won't fall asleep till 1:30-2pm and will then only sleep 30mins to 1 hr max. He appears grizzly on waking from this nap but this passes very quickly

He's an early riser and gets up between 5am-5:45am, Bedtime is 7-7:30pm. Any ideas please

Have you tried putting him down for a nap earlier than 12.30? It could be you are missing the window and he is getting an OT second wind which is why he is taking so long to fall asleep. I know my DS would sleep at certain times when he was in daycare but we had to put him down earlier when he was at home as he got tired more quickly without all the extra stimulation they get around other kids.

yes i was thinking that but he shows no signs of tiredness at all, and will happily continue to play. It's worth a shot though. thanks

I was going to say the same esp. as daycare must tire him out.  I'd try perhaps 11.45am and that at least gives you a little time for him to fall asleep.

What time did you put him down and what time did he wake up in the morning? When you change things you do need to do the same thing for a good few days to see if it has worked or not.

Did you put him down early for the nap and it took him that long to go to sleep?

I've stayed in now for a good few days and religiously put him down at 12:30. He will go to sleep straight away but is only sleeping 30-40mins and wakes up really cranky. However on his nursery days he's had the same routinue but slept 1.5hrs and wakes happy. I really don't undertand it. On average per night he's only doing 10-10.5hrs max. So on the days he short naps with me his average sleep is 11hrs in 24hrs

Sounds OT to me. My DD also goes to nursery Mon, Tues one week and Mon, Tues, Wed the next and she is exhausted by the end of it. We have the opposite problem though in that she only sleeps for 40 mins in nursery but at least 2 hrs at home! I think the extra stimulation of the other children and the fun activities just gets them very tired.

I do think you need to try an earlier nap after his nursery days.  OR perhaps you can try and really tire him out in the am when he's with you.

Hi i'm really anxious with whats going on. he was awke at 5:15am today and literally only slept for 10minutes at 12 midday. I tried on numerous occasions to get him to sleep this afternoon to no avail. At half past five he literally crashed while sitting on the sofa and has been asleep ever since. It's now quarter past nine. I've undressed him and managed to get him to take a bottle. He remained asleep through all this and is now in bed. Did i do the right thing? Also what do i do if he's up at 3:30am as he seems to be doing 10hr nights. Please help

He may sleep more than 10 hours to catch up. Is he teething? Have you tried meds just before a nap and a dream med to see if that helps?

Do whatever you can to get him to go back to sleep if he wakes at that time - it'll probably help cos it's dark.

Just wanted to send hugs and hope that he catches up on some sleep and does a longer night for you. Good luck.
