10 week old--tummy time
« on: July 04, 2011, 18:20:05 pm »
So my 10 week old spits up A LOT! The Dr said it isnt reflux and she isnt being overfed--I wait about 30minutes to start doing activies to try and prevent her from spitting up. But it doesnt matter how long it has been, after being placed on her tummy for a few minutes she starts spitting up and instantly gets hiccups and wants off her belly. any advice? i try to give her tummy time as much as possible but I feel so bad that he gives her hiccups everytime.

Thanks for the advice =)

Tummy tie is hard on refluxy Los or ones that spit up a lot. I think it makes some of them feel uncomfortable. We found the best time to encourage tummy time (even if it was just 5 mins) was strait after a nap before a feed (as long as your LO isn't really hungry!) Also I found as the day went on my LO was less inclined to enjoy it so I tried to do TT in the mornings :) HTH

PS. Have you tried gripe water for the hiccups? Works a treat for us :-*

Do you have one of those breast feeding pillows you could prop her on?  A reflux wedge?  Or even a rolled up towel really.  That should help her do tt without spitting up.

Yes we do use gripe water, it works so well! we go through them so fast haha. I will try tomorrow morning/afternoon to do some tummy time before she eats. And I do have a boppy pillow, usually she gets upset with it but I bet if I keep having her do it she will just get used to it.
thanks for everything =)

My LO hates tummy time too... We do it half upright on my chest.. like you are burping them but you are half lying down and they are lying on your chest. He loves to lift his head and look around from that position, plus it also burps him too! Hope that makes sense?!

Oh yes I forgot to mention we do tt before E.  Now we do it again later on too as the A is long enough for the milk to settle somewhat.  We started with 1 minute as that was all he would tolerate.  And I used to put him in front of the tv.  You can try books, toys, mirrors, playing peekaboo.  The tv is the only thing that would hold him there.  In a matter of a few weeks we built it up to 10mins and now I don't always need to use the boppy nor the tv.  Eg.  I put him on his tummy while
I prepare his bottle.  Every minute counts.  Tummy time on the chest is also a great idea.  And you can also put her on the shins while you are lying on your back and bring her up and down.  There's a great thread on tt on the activity board.  You should look it up!
