Formula to milk??
« on: July 07, 2011, 11:45:39 am »
Logan is going to be a year on the 12th (how did that happen?? :'() Today I gave him his first bottle of formula with milk. I did 4oz formula to 2oz of milk and was just going to switch it one oz at a time. He seemed to really like it....would it be ok to switch faster or would that be to hard on his tummy?

Not sure how it would affect other babies but we just switched one bottle a day at 10months and within a few days ds was on all cows milk.

Has he had any problems with dairy before?  I remember going straight to milk with T at 1yr, but he was still BFing too so I don't think he was drinking much milk to start.  I went slow with F because he was a little more sensitive.  TBH I think I would stick to your original plan and do it a bit slower.  Great that he likes it though!

He had been having yogurt and cheese with no problems....I was thinking of doing it a faster because I only have a few cans of formula left and didn't want to buy anymore :P

I never even thought about just giving him a whole bottle of milk......maybe I will try doing it that way.

Good luck!  He should be fine, but keep an eye out for tummy troubles anyway.  Also, if cow's milk is a bit much for him try goat's milk instead, that's what I've been giving F.  :)

I did it slow with DD1.  Just substituted 1 oz of formula for cow's milk in a bottle for a couple days, then another oz and so on.  The transition from formula to cow's milk took about 10 days or so.  I just tend to err on the side of making any big change like this slowly.
