Goat Milk?
« on: July 12, 2011, 16:33:50 pm »
A friend who is a naturopath recommended that DD1 might be sensitive to cow milk and switching to goat milk might help her skin and reduce ear infections.  Can anybody tell me how it tastes?  It's a bit pricey around here and I don't want to invest in something that will get poured out.  I imagine Feta cheese and chevre- is the milk strong smelling/tasting too?

I personally find it very strong tasting and I don't like it myself.  I guess you could try and see.  I had a friend growing up who was allergic to milk and had to drink goats milk.  She also got to have carob chip cookies (ewww).  I may end up having to do that for DD who is MPI.  What about soy?

I'm concerned about using soy regularly, as I have autoimmune thyroid disease (and very strong family history of autoimmune disease in the female line).  I read that soy increases auto-antibodies, and I want to do anything I can to keep my girls from developing this.

I guess it is a matter of personal taste. We drink goat milk as a family and really like it. I actually find cows milk very thick and cloying now but I do have friends who really don't like it. It is easier to digest than cows milk.

At Christmas when we were home visiting the ILs, happened to notice as I poured milk into my coffee that it was goat's milk.  Forgot to say anything to DH, and it was the end of the day when I remembered. Aside from his wrinkling his nose and proclaiming disgust at it ::)  he had not noticed at all that he'd had goat's milk in his tea and coffee.  DS had drank all of his milk without any comments and both MIL and FIL had eaten it on cereal and not noticed the difference at all. MIL looked in the recycling bin and the rinsed jug from the day before was goat's milk, so we had all been drinking it for 3-4 days without noticing it at all  :P   The jugs look almost the same from whichever supermarket she got it and she had just absentmindedly picked them up, none of us had ever tasted it before!
