What time do your toddlers go to bed?
« on: July 13, 2011, 08:38:24 am »
I'm wondering if part of our EW problem is a too early bedtime.  He's always been on the low side of the 'average' sleep for his age, that said, I'm not convinced he doesn't need more than he's getting.

Currently a typical day is down at 7pm up at 4:30am with 1 or 2 night wakings which he settles fairly quickly.  Very occasionally he will sleep past 4:30, sometimes I manage to settle him past 4:30 but that seems to have stopped working.

So I'm wondering if part of the problem is a too early bedtime.  When do all of your little ones hit the hay?

When we were on 2 naps, BT was 8.30pm give or take 10 minutes, wake up 8am and it moved  to 8pm when we were on one nap.

9 pm here, but around June when it was light we had 10 pm. She sleeps till 6.30-7, sometimes 7.30 and still has 1-2 hour nap. She used to wake up around 5.30 when she used to go to bed at 8. If you don't like the wakings and they are regular (which Tracey said means a habit) have you tried her idea of taking 3 days in a row and waking them up 1 hour before the usual time (so at 3.30 if wakes usually at 4.30). This is just to say 'hi, do you want to keep sleeping?' and then allowing them to fall asleep again so they sleep longer and break the habit? On the days I tried it worked but I was not patient enough for 3 days.

All three of mine go to bed about 7pm and up about 630/7am and they're 5, 3.5 and 17 months.  The 17 month old if has a 2.5/3 hour nap and the 3.5 year old naps about twice a week so goes to bed slightly later on those days.

It might be worth trying an 8pm bedtime to see if that helps.  How old is he?  That is a ridicules time to be getting up in the morning and can't believe he's getting enough sleep.

BT is 7:30 here and DS is 15 mo old.  When teething isn't bad, we get a 6-6:30 WU.

For the wake to sleep, we still have some NWs at the moment and have since he was a bit ill so it's not only hard to motivate myself to do it, it's also difficult when he does occasionally wake at 3:30am to get him back down.  I know when he wakes early, early morning, he tends to be up for the day at 4:30.  The 'quality' of sleep around that time seems to be poor for some reason.

Hi again.  :)  DS2 goes to bed at 7:30 and not a minute earlier.  He would likely EW if he went to bed earlier.  I can't remember exactly what time DS1 was going to bed at that age, but probably about the same time.
