When and how to stop breast feeding 10 1/2 months
« on: July 15, 2011, 07:36:20 am »
;D I am very proud and happy that my baby is now 10 months old and has only ever been breast fed. Unlike my daughter who I had trouble with.   Now my major question is, I want to stop breast feeding when he is one year old as he will be walking soon and I think I am ready to start weaning. Could you pls guide me through the process of how long it will take to wean? He is still drinking 4 times a day 7/11/3/7 and eating loads of solids.

Thank you in advancE

Congratulations on making it to 10mo, and beyond!  That's fantastic!

Have you read the http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=157385.0 FAQ?  Have a look and let me know what you think?

Thank you very much for your response. I think i may continue till he is one year old and then start to wean from then. How many feeds does a 10.5 month breast fed baby supposed to have a day please?

The WHO recommends a minimum of 4 feeds/day until 10mo, with no rush to drop feeds if mom and baby are still interested. Since you're at 10.5mo, you could go to 3 if you wanted to. Does he feed at night?

No feeding at night thank goodness. Last feed is at 7pm. I might drop the 3 in the afternoon one and offer a yoghurt or something instead. Not sure will play it by ear thanks for advice

I was down to four feeds a day with mine by 10-11 mths. We actually dropped the 11am feed first as it was the easiest for me (kept the DF longer) and then the DF went. So at 11mths we were doing - 7,3,7,DF and by 12 mths 7,3,7 and 14 mths the 3pm feed also went....

Mine self weaned fairly easily as you can see at 16 and 18 mths...I wasn't "ready" especially with my DD as she is most probably our last baby....

HTH and congrats on getting to 10 mths xxx
