I need help getting my 3 month old on EASY
« on: July 17, 2011, 05:53:37 am »
I am having a difficult time with my almost 3 month old. I've been doing the easy routine strictly for 4 days now, and i thought things were better, and today it went haywire. I have a bunch of questions:
1) isnt the shush-pat method also a prop? if it's the only way to get him to go to sleep (besides for rocking him) then how is it a tool to get him to sleep on his own?
2) what do I do if he gets off the routine - start new from there, or stick to the timings? for example, if he wakes up at 6 and wont go back to sleep, or if he nurses and goes right back to sleep, if he wakes up early from naps and wont go back to sleep etc etc
3) i've been shush patting him for 45 min to an hr!!! it's driving me nuts, but if i stop he wakes right up. and even after that hour, sometimes he only sleeps for 20 min and then wakes right up

what do i do?? i have a bunch more questions but i'll stick with that for now. if there is someone who can guide me through this process I'd really appreciate it
thanks!

Hi hun!!
Just going to answer your questions...

Here's a thread that may help you answer your questions?

The beauty of EASY is that it's NOT a schedule that you have to follow, but a routine that you can adapt to your baby. My lo didn't wake up at 7:30 everyday when she was a baby. She used to wake at 5am, 6am, 7am..etc...until she was put on a routine that she was comfortable with, I would just follow her cues. If she woke up early, say by a half hour, I would watch her to see if she would get sleepier faster. Follow a combination of his sleepy cues and see if his A times correlate..does that make sense? Since he's 3 months old, his A time would be around 1 hour and 20-30 minutes long. That's just a rough guideline though..he may need more or less than that.

I know. It's exhausting. I used to shush pat for 45-60 minutes as well :( At that point, just give him a small break, change his diaper...see if it's time for a feed and then try again. Sleep training is hard, exhausting and mind numbing.

*hugs* You sound so tired and exhausted. I hope you have some help and some time to rest yourself.
