last feed before bed
« on: July 17, 2011, 22:27:25 pm »
Hi,

I'm in the process of putting 6mo DS on a 4h EASY at present and it's going quite well with the exception of nap times and NW but that's another story!

I have a quick question about the last feed before bedtime - how much time should there be between feed and bed. DS is bf 4 times per day and usually once at night, occasionally twice. We're weaning and on 3 small meals per day.

I wasn't sure whether to post this in sleep or feed, so opted for the EASY forum I hope that's right!

Thanks,
Lianna

with both dd1 and dd2, the last feed and bedtime are all at the same time.  It was part of our bedtime routine to do a feed.  As long as they're not in the habit of falling asleep while eating, it doesn't cause any EASY routine issues/independent sleep issues.  dd2 has reflux, and we've AP'd, so she does fall asleep during the feed, and we're working on weaning that.  But she'll still have a bedtime feed.

With dd1, dh would read while I bf, then we'd put dd1 in her sleep sack, sing, pray, shh/pat and pop her in the crib.  So even if she fell asleep while feeding, the rest of the routine would rouse her enough that she'd be drowsy but awake when she went down.  We kept that routine for as long as I bf (14 mos) and for awhile afterwards, she just had a sippy cup instead.
