We have swaddled our touchy baby for the past 2 months (she's now 4 months) because of flailing arms, startle reflex, face rubbing, dummy-knocking and finger-sucking (which instead of soothing her back to sleep actually wakes her fully if she's in light sleep).
We were having fabulous 2 hour naps on EASY when we were swaddling her.
3 days ago i decided we ought to stop swaddling her as she is rolling back to tummy and i worry about her being unable to move if she rolls at night. So we started to try and take daytime naps unswaddled first, and then when that was sorted try it at night too. But for the last 3 days she is managing to fall asleep (eventually, sometimes with me holding her arms down, sometimes on her own) but has ALWAYS woken after about 30 mins at the latest. She stirs, rubs her face, knocks her dummy out if its still in, and then wakes fully.
Sometimes i am in there napping too so i try to catch it early by guiding her hands away from her face and putting her dummy back in, but it rarely stops her waking fully. She doesnt cry, she is just then wide awake, either for about 10 mins until she is tired enough again to fall back asleep or until she starts crying, not a tired cry, but i think a bored cry? and so i will take her downstairs to do somethig else. Problem is then she is way too tired for her next feed and ends up falling asleep.
It is driving me mad. Please tell me there is someone else out there who has got away from swaddling who has been through this. Please tell me there is an end in sight?
