NFs and EW for 11 mo. Getting really old
« on: July 18, 2011, 22:17:48 pm »
Hi all, I posted a couple of months back and got help weaning my lo from the swaddle. Now I would like to stop the night feeds. I can live with one but most nights he wakes upat least twice . Usually around 1 then 4:30 or so. Other times he wakes at 11 or 12 then 3 then 5:30 or a bit before. Problem is this is combinedwith early waking that happens most nights. I am lucky if I get a 6 am. If he nurses at 4:30 am then he will usually sleep til 6 ish. If he wakes closer to 5 or a bit after, the only way to get him to go back to sleep is to nurse and even then sometimes he just wants to be up.
He has no props. He do a bit of patting - varies. Rarely he does not need to be patter, just turns his head a few times and off to sleep he goes. I do not nurse him to sleep thou the last thing in our bedtime routine is to nurse. Actually, hehas been biting me lately so that sorts of cut our nursing sessions short sometimes... :)

I would really like to be done with the night feeds. Howcan I do it without using pu/pd. I have tried once and can not do it again.
Anyone bfeeding and dropped night feeds without pu/pd?
How long does it typically take?

Any help is much appreciated. I am soo exhausted from the continuous waking up.

Hi there,
Thanks for your reply.
Our days usually are like this
Up at 6/ 6:30 latest
BF 6/6:30 then solids about an hour or so later
S 9:30/10 (he has been taking 1.5 hr nap here for about a month, though last 2 days only took 45 min)
BF 11/11:30
Lunch 1:00
S 3 to 3:45 ( has been taking only 45 mins here)
Dinner between 5 and 6.
BF 7:15
Sleep between 7:30 and 8 (sometimes earlier depending on wake-up.

Naps today were different as he took a 45 min nap in AM at 9:30 then a 1h20 min nap at 2:10. Weird.
He eats solids 3x a day. Not a huge eater but he will have about two cubes veggies with protein plus a store bought jar of fruit for lunch and the same for dinner. Breakfast is usually fruit, cereal, and finger foods such as cubes cheese, cheerios, banana. I also give him little snacks such as a couple of tablespoons Greek yogurt, piece of fresh fruit, and yogurt melts. Some days he eats better than others. Also, sometimes I do give him a top off before naps but am trying to stop that.

Sorry if too long of a post. Trying to give as much info as I can :)

I was thinking that maybe you could use wake-to-sleep for the first NW and see if you can't push that back to later in the night.  He may not be truly hungry, rather habitually waking up at the same time and then expects a feed.  With W2S if he is waking at 1 you would go into his room between 12 and 12:15.  You want him to stir in his sleep, not wake completely.  With my boys I would rub them until they rolled over or grabbed their lovie.  This will hopefully send your LO into another sleep cycle to skip the time he normally wakes.  It can take a few nights to start working so if he still wakes at 1 don't be discouraged.  I would give it at least 3 nights.

Sorry didn't get back to you earlier. Had a tough couple of nights. I could no use w2s as he woke at 12 the first night then 3:30 and 5.I could not predict when he was gonna wake up. Then yesterday, he woke at 11:00 crying. I tried to resettle but was unsuccessful so I offere him a feed. He ate really well but then he was up again about 1h15 min later. Kept trying to resettle for a while and he would doze off a few minutes then wake up again crying. I got DH to help but the same thing kept happening. So I nursed him again at 1:30 after giving him some Tylenol cos I this point we suspecting pain from teeth. But he could not settle until after 45 minutes after meds and nursing. DH ended up bringing him to bed and lo and behold, he slept until 6!
I think he may be getting his top front teeth plus he is starting to stand with no assistance - first time from the ground up, in the middle of the room, by himself  yesterday. But I wonder how come he slept OK in our beds afterward. I am tempted to try it again tonight. I am just worried that I will start something new. But then again, we are not sleeping well anyway...

It does sound like maybe pain was the problem.  I would give him the Tylenol at bed time and see what the night brings.  Personally I wouldn't bring him into bed with you again.  I know it seems like a quick easy solution but you are looking at a whole new can of worms if you start co-sleeping at this age.
