2-1 HELP
« on: July 20, 2011, 17:26:27 pm »
We are on day four of one nap days.  At first Alyssa seemed to be doing well but now I think we are in a OT spell.  Her wu time is shifting a little later but her nap is getting shorter and harder for me to extend.

Do you see anything that I don't! Here are the last four days:

Sun
wake up at 6:45am
nap 12:10-2:25pm
bed and asleep by 7:10pm

Mon
wake up at 7am
nap 12:30-2:30pm
bed and asleep by 7pm
nw at 3am( I suspect teething)

Tues
wake up at 7am
nap 12-1:35pm (couldn't extend)
bed and asleep by 7pm
I tried to fit in a CN as were out but she wouldn't go to sleep, so hubby said why not keep her up. I probably should of put her down at 6:30pm
nw 8:20pm (OT)

Today
wake up at 6am, was able to pat her back to sleep until 6:45am. (she was in and out of sleep)
tried for an 11am nap but started playing so I took her out and put her down at 12pm. woke up at 1pm screaming, arching her back and rolling around. I suspect pain here. I am aiming for a 20min CN later with the buggy.

Do you think she is slightly OT b/c of these one naps? If we are consistent with these one naps, will they lengthen naturally or am I going to have to make it a habit of trying to settle her?

I'd say slightly OT.  When we changed to 1 nap I had to AP a CN every 4/5 days and do slightly later bedtime for about 3 weeks to keep OT at bay.  We got 1.5 hour naps initially and then after 3/4 weeks they extended out to 2.5-3 hours.   So I'd keep extending for a while yet and do the odd CN and see how things go the next week.

She loves her long A times doesn't she?!

thanks. She does love her long A times. I think it is b/c she is too excited to be around her sister. Tomorrow, I plan a two nap day.

one more thing: since we began one nap, she is been having at least one nw. is this part of the transition? tonight for instance, she fought her cn and fought bt(suspect OT) was asleep by 7pm and woke up at 1am crying out. Gave her meds and she began talking in her crib!!! Feel free to move this to the nws board.

It could be an OT wakening for sure.  Any sign of teething?  I would see does it continue but hopefully will disappear as she settles into one nap. How long did it take her to go back to sleep?

it took about one hour. 30min with me in her room and 30min on her own. I didn't hear a peep until 7am.  She just cut her sixth tooth. She got her four top incisors in two weeks. I can't see any more teeth yet.  I want to try 2 naps today but it is now 11am and she seems to be doing well.

thanks. Should I just hope for the best for these Nws. I think she is a little OT b/c she isn't taking a long enough nap in the day.  Going to put her down at 12pm today and hope for the best. Otherwise, I will try to AP a cn at around 5pm for 20min.  Do you think 5:30pm is too late for a cn?  I just it would rob her from her night sleep but now she is having one nw.

Does anyone know what went wrong with yesterday's EASY? wake 7am, nap 12:20-2:40pm, bed 7:50pm. She woke up at 6am this morning.
Could it be hunger? We went to the beach for the afternoon, had an early dinner around 4pm and when we got home around 6pm I gave her a yogurt and some cheerios. I wonder if that wasn't filling enough for her b/c when I gave her her bottle at 7am this morning she sucked it dry and got very upset when it was finished.

Hi Sabrina,

Sounds like how we did it and we just rode it out.  Actually bedtime was set no matter what the rest of the day looked like.  We did very few two naps days at it just seemed too confusing, kwim?

With regards to yesterday, I think bedtime was too late.

Not much help on the NWings, as we have always had at least one even during the transition.  But I don't recall them getting worse due to OT, and we never got it so much OT that we couldn't get out of it.

I have always found I could trust F with regulating his sleep, so if he would get OT then he would naturally catch up either with a longer nap or a better night.  Some LOs are just really good at that.  T wasn't!  But F is.  :)

Agree with M that bedtime was probably a little late.  Great that you got such a good nap though seeing as you were worried they've been short.

Hope today goes ok x

thanks ladies. So, even with a great nap, bt should of been earlier, like 7:30pm?  I just thought by sticking to a 13hour day, this would guarantee me an 11hr night.
I guess I may be reading too much. With a three hour nap, I assume an 8pm bt would be fine?  LOL-she would never do a three hour nap like her sister did.

I think by doing a two nap day, it makes things worse b/c yesterday I did one and she woke up at 5:20am this morning. From 5:20am-6:20am, she was in and out of sleep as I had to pat her.  I put her down for one nap today at 12pm and am going to aim for her to be asleep by 7pm.
