I do believe it takes LO's a long time to adjust to not napping, a lot more than I had ever considered!!
so should I try and keep days as consistent as poss i.e. 6.45/7pm bedtime with a half hour car nap. With M I can't really be as flexible as before, there needs to be a bit of a plot yk? Maybe that way he will get used to the short nap??

That's what I did with M (although we always did set nap & BT's), it should help 'set' his bodyclock to nap at a certain time....it's worth a shot!

I might try a short 35 min nap around 2pm and then bed 6.45/7pm. At least that way we have a kind of plan and I also don't feel I have to drive around aimlessly. He 'might' get used to it or things will get drastically worse in which case we will re-think. Might try it for a week and see. I just can't change things on a daily basis atm as I have M to think of and it is tough enough dealing with her sleep needs, let alone both of them!

What does M's day look like Sian?

It is hard when you have 2 LO's to think about....

ATM, M doesn't nap at all & hasn't done for a few months now. She is usually awake anytime between 6am & 7.30/8am (on good days  ;)!). Even 'tho she's not napped for some time she's clearly still adjusting & getting consistency to her night sleep is our biggest prob currently.

For us, it was a car nap if feasible but as I don't drive and DH was at work till 7/8pm it was more so a flake-out in the P and Ts (so glad I bought it despite the "bigger" gap). Oscar is still a good buggy napper or sleeper even at 5+ thank goodness. O

I would give him a full hour, expecting 10-10.5 at bedtime and as he got older, the hour in the buggy became shorter and shorter (like he'd fall asleep on the commute home from preschool at 3-3.30 for forty winks even at 4-4.5).

Just caught up, Becky.

I think your plan for car nap at 2, then 7:00 bed sounds really good.  I am feeling the same way, like I need some sort of structure in this mess.

Last night, Grace Anne also did just under 12 hrs.  Yea, looks great on paper. But like your little guy, she is tired. Acting out, bags under the eyes. She just will NOT nap.  She totally melted at lunch. Put her on the couch for "hush hour" with the TV. I was really hoping she'd doze off, but no... I think maybe if it had been 3pm she would have, instead of 2. But that's just too late.  So here we are, our 2nd day with NO NAP. This is un-charted territory for us. I've always snuck in a car nap on the 2nd day.  Put her to bed just after 6:30, so 11.5hr day.  I am scared for tonight... Hope she's not up with OT nightmares, or an EW.  Will probably do a car nap tomorrow regardless.   :(

So many HUGS becky.  My DH and I are snapping at eachother aLOT, and we don't have another LO. Just one, and the transition is hard enough for us.

thanks hun - what is your name btw? I hope your day goes ok - keep me posted.
Well we did 30 min nap yesterday and bed by 7pm and he did 12 hours. He did seem to be having dreams in the night as I heard him a couple of times and that is more than likely OT as he does not usually shout out but we had no morning screaming so that is great. When I heard M at 6.30am I whisked her downstairs so he had the most chance to sleep.
Today we will do the same.
I find quiet time on the sofa is a joke. H was watching a tractor DVD yesterday and talked literally all the way through it asking dh questions etc....

sounds great Becky - if its any consolation, Oscar did a 9(!) hr night the night before last due to mosquito bite allergy (or so he says) as he woke up itching (9pm to 6am UGH) but last night was down by 7 and slept till 6.47am so finally when OTd he CAN do 12 hrs....

So glad you got a better morning! Nothing worse than starting the day early and cranky.

DD did a 12ish hour night as well, I am actually SO surprised we didn't get a NW.  But our day has cycled forward fast. We had,
W 7:45
Bed 7:15

W 7:15
Bed 6:45

W 6:45

So, I guess I'll do a car nap today.  Bleh... I still have this dream she'll doze on the couch like she did that one day, but I think that was just a one off and I shouldn't risk it today.  I really can't do a 6pm bed Tues thru Fri, as I work afternoons 3 to 6.  6:30's really the earliest we can swing, and that's tough.

Ladies, I am still trying to figure out if this is normal. With a 1hr nap, Madi did a 10hr night. Is her body just adjusting. I know she is still tired. Normally she sleeps 12.5hours in a 24hour period. How did your nights get longer?

Becky, I think you are doing such a great job. I know how hard it is to struggle with two los and especially when we worry about sleep. Hubby calls me the sleep nazi.

thanks sabs xxxx
FWIW it sounds to me that Madi is OT. I will look at your thread.

H also normally sleeps 12.5 in a 24 hour period, that is what he needs. Now it is 12-12.5.

He had a 40 min car nap today at 2pm - was awful when he woke but then fine after. We shall see.

3rd day with NO NAP  :o

Was going to take her for a car nap, but I was low on gas first of all, then I realized my car is past due for inspection, yikes!!!  sooo not on top of things these days.  so quiet time with the tv, and no nap...

bed at 6:40 so 12 hour day. my fingers are crossed!!!!

Sounds like your getting into a groove, Becky. I hope it continues going well.

Sabs, I agree about the OT. I'll have a peek at your thread too.

hmm, well a NW around 4am when he called us into his room about 4 times to find various animals. Got very firm on the fourth time and told him I was not coming back until the sunshine. He was a bit tearful :( but is still asleep now at 7.20am so hope we can do a shorter day today. What time bed? Shall I stick to my plan for 5 days? 10?

Hope your night was ok x

sounds like you're all getting into a groove ladies...

Emma is younger but has the ability to "tag on" when not OTd or OS. This has been her first week at preschool 9am to 2pm. We started the week with 14 hr night and gradually its gotten shorter, last night under 13....so again, we may try a short buggy nap today as I have to collect her at 1pm to bring her to doc, an hour's journey away.
