Peanut challenge
« on: July 26, 2011, 18:20:37 pm »
James has got a peanut challenge o the 3rd August. James has tested positive to peanuts and a variety of tree nuts since he was 10 months old so has never had them. James's Immunologist (who we have been seeing for about 10 months now) wants to trial peanuts and tree nuts to find out if he is truly allergic to these or if they are false positives. We have see reactions to all of James's other allergens so we know they are true allergies. I am nervous as his skin prick result was 10mm and RAST result was 55.9 and we have been told that it is a high risk food challenge. We are goinng ahead though as feel it would be good to know one way or the other. After the peanut challenge they plan on doing a mixed nut challenge.

Fingers crossed that it goes well! (or I guess at the very least that you get a definitive answer on the allergy!)

I will definitely let you know the outcome.

Heidi - It would be nice if James passed peanuts but to be honest like you have said just knowing one way or the other would be great.

They are doing it on the ward and the Specialist Registrar who works under Jame's Immunologist will be present at the challenge as it is classed as high risk.
