So, Leo is TWO next Thursday

And friends and family are asking for present ideas for his birthday $:-\$ I don't even know what we're going to buy him

What toys were successful and well loved with your 2 year old?

DS isn't purely spirited which may explain why his favorite "toy" that he got for his bday was a piggy bank with lots of pennies to put into it

However, he does have a lot of energy to get out. He really enjoys things that he can push around and use in pretend play. Like a play lawnmower or a vaccuum. It wears him out

Trampoline,
a large dump truck tofill smaller toys and roll around the house!
a pop up kind a house/tent

Oh yeah! DS got one of those for christmas and loves crawling around in it. It was ~$20 and it has two small tents on the sides with a tunnel connecting them. Lots of entertainment there!

We got T&F a fab water toy for their 2nd birthday, it's like a little waterway with locks and little boats to sail around it, they love it and it keeps them relatively still for a good while

They are also very into their play food at the mo, lots of the velcro stuff they can cut keeps them busy for ages

oh and they got tiny space hoppers which they love, look sooo cute hopping around on them

We got a big waterway toy for my DS's 2nd birthday as well!

The biggest thing for him from about 2-present though is his Brio train set and buckets of cars. A big plastic tub filled with 20 matchbox cars will keep him sitting amused for AGES. He sort them, lines them up, races them, talks to them, pushes them, etc etc etc! HOURS!

Nick LOVED his toy chainsaw, his tricycle, his 'toolset' at 2 yo.

Lis - can't believe he's nearly 2!! Gone so fast!! Eloise isn't 2 until early Sept but she is getting a 3 wheel scooter (she keeps stealing her older brothers!) but I'm not sure what else yet. It's hard!! She is getting a big doll house for xmas (it's on lay-by) and I think my parents are getting her a stroller and a baby (she will love that.)

When my ds#1 was 2, he got a wooden parking garage for his cars - its a 3 level parking garage with ramps etc - well he is 6 now and it still gets a good workout every now and then!!! we also bought him the matching wooden roads that goes with it for that xmas and now ds#2 loves those! Been money well spent! Will see if I can attach a link: it's a Plan City wooden parking garage.

I think a running bike would be a great idea, L's cousins had them at 2 and were both riding 2 wheelers before 3!!

Leorah loved her Fisher Price Little People at 2, this was the start of her role play and independant play, she loved her garage, circus and farm in particular.

Loads of ideas there!

I was thinking of a trike - but do you think a balance bike would be better? Would he be able to balance? $:-\$
Also love the idea of tent/tunnels or something to push around - he really loves pushing my niece's dolls' pram around the garden. The tool set sounds good too

We've got a garage (he got it for Christmas) and loads of Little People stuff, which he loves.

Off to google the Waterway toy now as I've no idea what it is!

There are a couple of variations on it! (different shape, different canals, etc) this is the one my DS would prefer - he sees it int he toy shop all the time and asks for it - he likes the roads!

Henry liked tool kits, anything to do with farms and farm machinery i.e. he got a combine harvester and that made his day

He also loved his ride on car.

I think that depends on the kid, he will probably need a lot of encouragement at first but if he can walk he can use it and eventually he will pick his feet up off the floor and start balancing

If he is energetic spirited I think he will fast track to a big bike this way, I wish we had done it with Leorah, maybe we would have avoided the jumping off instead of braking stunts when she first learnt!!

What are they called in English, Mashi? I'm searching Waterways on UK Amazon and it's showing me puzzles or watering systems!!!

Lis I have never seen them in England and none of our friends or family there have either - you would have to order it from Amazon.de and have it sent to England (I think that is what Niki did?). Unless you can try the Wader home page ... I will have a look to see what they have on their site.

Yup we ordered it from Amazon.de, it worked out over £10 cheaper

we love our water play tables as well - we have rimini for Emma and the pirates one for Oscar. He wanted Niagra but they were out of stock here when they got them for Children's Day this year. Best thing is that the Duplo fits them ;-)

such fun toys!!

its electronic, but my son just got a car that goes by itself when you push a button. he'll push it then run to the other side of the room to catch it... repeat! too funny. he also likes to dance and is really into Disney's Imagination Movers in concert, any concert will do really provided it catches his attention. He'll dance and dance.
