does the 3 hours continue through the night at this age?
« on: August 05, 2011, 01:55:19 am »
just wondering if Im supposed to feed Levi if he wakes and its been 3 hours? I usually do 3 feeds a night, he does his longest stretch after bedtime, wakes around midnight-1am and then again three hours later and again three hours later which starts our day. this morning I was so tired i popped the dummy into his mouth and he went back to sleep but Im wondering if I shouldve fed him, if hes too young for me to do that just yet?

I feed DD if it has been 3 hours but not if she wakes before. She does very similar to Levi in that her longest stretch is first and then it gets shorter.

Is he gaining weight ok? Are you bf? I would def feed if you are bfeeding as he is so young and you need to keep your supply up.

no Im formula feeding now. he has gained 200gms since Tuesday, still not up to birthweight but midwife isnt concerned at all. Im about to wake him for his 8pm feed. I dont do the DF yet as I need all the sleep I can get but Im wondering if I should try it, hes such a sleepy baby when feeding as it is that its hard to get him to take a feed that takes less than half an hour!

Dd2 did 4 hour stretches straight away for me (she was bigger than my other 2, I've heard that might make a difference) which the doctor said was fine.  As long as he continues gaining, I think its ok to let him go a bit longer than 3 hours but not by much.

My LO was in the hospital for a week after he was born and we/the nurses feed him every 4 hours. He was technically on demand feeding, but he was so sleepy that he wouldn't always wake up to feed so we'd let him go 4 hours before waking and feeding. I figure if the doctors and nurses were happy with every 4 hours, than it should be OK.
He's now 10 wks and we're working on a 3.5 hour EASY (sigh).
