Should I increase each bottle?
« on: August 14, 2011, 23:10:03 pm »
DD is just over 9 months...

She is still on 4 bottles a day (sometimes more given that she is teething and has days where she outright refuses solids regardless of being medicated).  She is draining every bottle that I offer to her.

Her typical intake hovers around 28-29 ozs.  She does take solids fairly well, though with teething she can be hit and miss.

At her age, should I still increase her bottles if she drains them, or just offer more in terms of solids??

I think I would leave them at her age to be honest, she is getting plenty of milk but you also want her to be increasing her solids and dropping the milk over the next 3 months.

You can also think about dropping to 3 botles over the next month or so, 9/10 months is a common age to drop to 3 bottles. When DD was on 3 bottles we did first thing, pre-afternoon nap and bedtime.

Thanks Laura... that was my first thought too :)  I think I got stuck in the rut of her not wanting solids so I increase the bottle to make up for it... then she is too full for solids... vicious cycle!

I dropped her morning bottle down to 6.5 ozs this morning and she ate her breakfast :)

She has had a few days of 3 bottles and I thought we were headed that way, but she has since changed her mind again LOL!  Funny kid.

Argh!  Just to keep me on my toes, she only took half of her lunch bottle and a bit of solids.  So, I went up to her room armed with a bottle when she woke at 4pm and she took the 7 ozs and outright refused solids at 5pm and then when I tried again at 545pm..

I think I will just move her to three bottles now and give her a couple of days to adjust :)

They sure do!  She is teething quite terribly right now too so I am sure that isn't helping with her eating habits ::)
