LO screams when BFing
« on: August 25, 2011, 23:52:44 pm »
My 3.5M EBF LO sometimes screams when I try to BF her.  This happens maybe once every 2-3 days, mostly in the late afternoon or early evening.  When it happens my DH has to feed her a bottle (of expressed milk).  I know it's most likely an OT or OS thing, but it breaks my heart.   BF hasn't been easy for us (over-supply, flat nipples, soreness that lasted for 10 weeks), but we're over all of that.  Why is it the one thing that is supposed to comfort her, sometimes upsets her into a major meltdown??  It is so hard and every times makes me reconsider continuing BFing.

Does this happen to anyone else?  My pedi said it wasn't due to reflux (or it would happen all the time).  Any support or encouragement would help,  I am feeling so defeated :(

It happened to us, but we had reflux to deal with. It was hard to deal with, and I can offer you big {{{hugs}}}. It actually didn't happen all the time, so I'd be a little cautious about the reflux dismissal. Is there any way you can get a second opinion just to ease your concerns?

Could it be that your supply drops in the early evening and evening enough she notices the difference sometimes?? My DS tugs, pulls, fights, cries when he is really antsy for the milk to let down and if the flow slows/stops before he is full which happens more later in the day.

I was going to suggest the same as Nicole. Have you seen this link yet?
