Night wakings due to hunger in an 8 mos old
« on: August 30, 2011, 13:07:26 pm »
OK, so my nearly 8 mos old is still up 3x a night to feed!
I have successfully been able to wean her off feeds at night twice, and she sleep through the night, but it only lasts a week or two, then she starts getting up again, once, then twice, then three times.
ARGH!
I guess she just needs it?
I am trying to feed her more during the day, but she is so interested in playing that I think she is not getting enough during daytime. I have a 3.5 yr old as well, so bringing her to a quiet place without interruptions is not always possible. I feed her a lot before naps when she is sleepy, and a lot before bed. But she is getting about 30-40% of her calories at night!!!!

She wakes up at random times, not the same times, except for 5am, and this one is the hardest to get her to go back to sleep as well.
Otherwise she goes right back to sleep and has no problem putting herself to sleep.

I did feed her less and less at night, and it worked, but again, she went back to it.
Thoughts? Suggestions? THANKS!!!!

Sure- no dummy. She has 2 teeth that already came through.

Our daytime looks like this:

7:00am wake
7:30am BF
9:30am - solids
10:30 BF again before nap, naps til noon
1:00 solids
2:30 BF
3:30- 5:00 nap
6:00 BF
8:00 Bottle & bedtime

following along as my DS is up at least 2 times a night now and the only way I can get him back to sleep is a bottle. Just wanted to see what they say.  :)

What about introducing solids at around 7pm?

Hi there. Sorry for the delayed response. We moved and I had no internet access for a week!

So thanks for the post on feeding less and less. I have done that and it has been working so far. She is up 1-2 times instead of 3, mostly just once now - around 5am, and it is hard to get her to go back to sleep too.
I think we are gonna cut that one off next week cold turkey as she is down ot 3 ounces anyways. Hopefully once she is used to not having her belly filled at that hour she'll sleep past 6am!
In the last week she did get up twice in one night and I knew she would as she hardly ate that day. We had just moved, and everything was new and exciting - more exciting than eating. :)
And I have just added some more solids to her diet too - mixing in some oatmeal into her fruit.
