canine teeth and early waking?
« on: August 31, 2011, 15:51:24 pm »
Hi everyone,

DD2 is 22.5 months.  A few months ago we had a real run for maybe 6 months of extreme EW (4am :-\) and OT.  We managed to eventually solve this through a couple of strategic 2 nap days and very early BT.  Things have been going well since then.  She was doing roughly 12 hours a night (6-6) and a good post lunch nap of roughly 2 hours (12-2).

Over the last couple of weeks  she has been waking earlier but has been napping longer to compensate so is overall happy and not overtired.  I am assuming this is because of Canines coming in.  We now have 1 through a few mm, 1 just popped the surface, the other 2 just about to pop through.

She has worked forward from 6ish to 4.40am this morning.  Today she went for a nap after some meds at 11.15 as she was tired and slept until 3.05pm!  She will probably still go to her bed just after 6pm even with this.

So, do you think it is the canines?  Should we just go with the flow and let it pass then see what happens?

At nursery (thurs and Fri) she only normally naps an hour or so, goes to bed at 6pm-ish and is still up at whatever early time so do you think I am right in thinking that limiting naps is just going to result in her being OT?

Any wise thoughts would be great :)

We are teething canines and they are most definitely contributing to EWs here!  It's awful!  :P

More than likely I'm afraid! DS is just getting his top 2 canines through & we've had sleep issues to so you're not alone!

For us doing a meds dream feed in the early hours is helping to give us a bit of a later WU.

Sorry to hijack, but Sianie how do you do the DF meds?  I think that would be our only solution but I am too afraid to try.  :P

Thank you Martina and Sianie- you both gave me good advise during the first early waking phase too!

I was thinking of trying a dream feed tonight.  I am 30 weeks pregnant so am up 101 times a night anyway for the loo so will do it one of those times and see if it helps.  Just hope I don't wake her up.  Her room is pitch black so may need to have the loo light on so I can find her.

Fingers crossed and hugs to those in the same teething boat.

I tend to do it between 1/2am (ok, not great for Mums!) & I use an oral syringe to give the meds, if E isn't sleeping on his back (which he isn't usually  ::)!) then I gently move him on to his back & then give the meds.....99% of the time he just stirs & swallows whilst asleep. I was really hesitant about doing it too, but I have found it does usually make a difference!

Good luck girls!  :)
