Blood in stool - peas??
« on: September 03, 2011, 19:48:08 pm »
My 6 month old ds had a nappy last tuesday morning which was mucousy and there were some streaks of blood.  He'd had peas for the first time in a puree the lunchtime before.  Apart from that, his second newest food was prunes, but he'd had those three days running.

Does the time frame fit for the peas causing the problem?  Does blood always mean a problem with a food?  And are peas a common culprit?  None of my other children have ever had blood in their poo, although dd had eczema with milk when she was a baby.

Should i try again with the peas?  I didn't give them to him again after that.  they were in a packet food - should I try them fresh or will it make no difference?

Sorry for all the q's - thanks for any answers! :)

I would think its a food issue, blood is usually when its been going for a while i think so it could be the prunes

has there been any more nappys with blood?

No there haven't, and he has had prunes for the last 2 mornings, as well as in a packet of food last week sometime.  I'm trying to remember what came before the prunes.  Could have been leek?  But he only had that for 2 days and then not again.

No - his poo is usually a fairly consistent colour, even after he's had prunes, but these were definitely dark red streaks.  not lots, but i felt awful in case he'd had a tummy ache with it.  if it is the prunes, then i suppose I'll know in a day or two.
