Thanks for the link Wendy! We did the same as you & switched the light off on M's gro-clock & put her night light back on & the room was a lot darker than usual. She was awake for a while around 5.30am but we had a really stormy night here & that might well have disturbed her.

Truth is if these kids have an early sleep phase (as in early to bed early to rise), blue light probably isn't making a lick of difference.  But best not to tempt the fate of those who have a delicate melatonin mechanism to begin with...and maybe in time they learn to let their bodies do the talking and go back to sleep at early hours.  Until they get used to life without a nap and start taking all the required rest at night, there's probably not much in it as the sleep drive is already doomed from day sleep.

But second night without my own blue LED blaring and I feel a ton better.  Placebo effect or not, I don't care.  I just need to sleep better!

thanks for that link Wendy.

Second night here with no blue light and she woke at 5am, tucked her in again and woke again at 6:30am when mr. sunshine came out. Don't know if it was the complete darkness or just utter exhaustion.

I honestly don't think any of it is coincidence- Alex has always slept better and longer without the nightlight on, and I know I do too!

I emailed the Gro Company today to say a forum had been discussing it and sent the link about the blue light ... here's hoping they can change the blue to another colour!

Here is the reply:
Dear Lucy,

Thank You so much for getting in touch with us, Online forum groups are a great way in which parents can share product user experiences and help us gain a wider opinion of views when we are looking to improve or further develop our products. We work with a series of consumer focus groups in the development phases of new product development, however this is a relatively new piece of feedback we have only recently received. Thank you for sending it on, it’s a very interesting point and during the next phase of product improvements we will explore the functionality of the light.

Thank you and kind regards

Amanda Smyth

Watch that space I guess! You might have thought they'd have heard something about it before tho... ???

I suppose they were parents who were thinking about the getting-out-of-bed-too-early issue rather than people who were trying to tackle sleep issues, etc and used colours that looked nice as a marketable, logical product ???

I guess it makes sense that sun = yellow/ stars & night = dark blue so I can see their logic!

Really interesting. Ds has both the gro-clock and a blue Ikea nightlight!! Have just changed the gro clock setting to 0 and Swapped to a White nightlight. Will see what happens, although ds has been sleeping really well recently....

I don't think it's something that is widely understood now - I hadn't really heard about light colour before delving into the research.  I also read about some type of goggles they are putting on truckers/lorry drivers which emit blue LED to keep them awake on the road.

Just to say I have turned his blue night light back on as it didn't seem to make any difference. Have left the Gro clock at 0 though, didn't realise it was possible til this thread

We've noticed a huge difference in our own room.  I can't believe it.  I was sleeping like  for months and months!!!

As far as F goes, well he's still sleeping the same lol  But hey don't need to play with the devil.

I had a big difference in the quality of sleep both of DS and mine (the blue light was coming out of the DS's bedroom into our room with the door open). I'm not sure if DS sleeps really more in time but for sure he's sleeping much better. He used to roll over and over in the bed and I did ear moving him during the night at least 3-4 times per night. Now I barely ear him once in the night. I subsitituted the blue light with a white one and I covered it, so it is much lower, almost dark but not completely.
