Eggs?
« on: September 06, 2011, 01:00:16 am »
I'm wondering, if I'm trying to avoid eggs for a possible allergy, is it just the protein?  Would the yolks be okay to eat, like if I hardboiled the egg so the white can be completely seperated from the yolk?  Just looking for some other foods to add into my diet that have some fats and vitamins.

I know it is possible to be allergic to only part of the egg, but even in cooking it is virtually impossible to separate the two, even if they are hardboiled (and the white & yolk both have proteins in them that can cause allergies- funny, I was just googling and it said that egg yolk allergies are more common in adults, who knew!).  I suppose you could try it and see, but it would be hard to know for sure.

Hi, if you are testing for an allergy I would def elimiate ALL egg. When retesting you could start with the yolk as it tends to be less allergenic.

OK--I'll hold off before adding the yolk back in.  Just looking for some variety to add.  But I'd hate to mess up getting to baseline at this point when I've already put almost 2 weeks into it.

Olly has had scratch tests and the reaction to the egg was far greater than the yolk so you may find the yolk can be tolerated. You are right it isn't worth the risk yet though!
