How much oatmeal for 9 month old?
« on: September 10, 2011, 12:54:29 pm »
Hello, Just wondering how much oatmeal people are giving their 9 months + kiddos? I have only been giving 1 tablespoon with fruit mixed in and wondering if I can give more and how much. Thanks!

Ditto.  I think at that age I was giving around 1-2 tablespoons mixed with milk but I would just give as much as they want.  As long as you're not coaxing them to eat then I don't see anything wrong with that.

Thanks! My LO seems to really want more and I just wasn't sure. Maybe I will go with 2 T and what he thinks!

They know when they have had enough- as long as he isn't refusing his milk at the next feed then it should be fine!

I asked my pediatrician and she said not to worry about giving too much oatmeal. So I am sure 4t is fine! My DS gets super gassy.. I recently increased his oatmeal to 2T and then 1T before bed and he has been tooting like crazy! So I think I will go back to just 2T in the morning.

not if they get it from other sources - I give Ready Brek for the calcium + vitamins

I normally give fortified cereals for that reason but he also has plenty of red meat in his diet.  If you're in the UK and using jar meals they do fortify those with iron (but that's because the average 'beef' meal contains 8% beef; yes, really!  My beef stew probably contains at least 50% beef!)
