Can you give too much of one food?
« on: September 12, 2011, 19:11:20 pm »
Ever since we started solids, sweet potato was one of his firsts and I give it to him just about every single day. I didn't want to give him oatmeal twice a day, so we usually do oatmeal at breakfast, and sweet potato at lunch or dinner, sometimes both. I haven't introduced regular potato just bc I'm not a fan of their nutrition. Is it okay I give him so much sweet potato? We're still introducing many foods....once we get more meat in there, I'm assuming I'll have more options so I won't feel like I have to give him so much.

Personally I wouldn't give it every day just because it is so sweet - but that's just my preference. I'd give maybe veggies at one meal and fruit at the other (unless as you say you are getting more carbs dairy and protein in there)

I agree with PP... I give fruit/carbs at breakkie... veggies for lunch (and some fruit if she is still hungry), then veggies/fruit for dinner...

crap. I should have posted about this when I first thought about it. I honestly wasn't focusing on it being sweet, I was just focusing on it being a carb and am afraid I've lead DS to have a sweet tooth :( I've given him many veges but always usually with sweet potato. Today I tried not to couple it with sweet potato and it didn't go so well. :(

Don't worry!  Just try again tomorrow... babies need to be exposed to new flavours at least 10 times before they will decide not to like it ;)  He might just be reluctant because it's new...

Also you can reduce the amount of sweet potato gradually until it's all out
