5.5 MO questions about NWs
« on: September 21, 2011, 02:38:39 am »
Hi! I've been working on getting past NWs with my DS. He's breastfed and has been waking up to eat 1-2 times per night. I usually do the df and then he'll wake up at 2 or 3 a.m. and then sometimes again at 5. Last night I was too exhaused to df so he woke at midnight and I nursed him (since his last feeding was at 6 p.m.). I had to do pu/pd when he woke at 3 a.m. and then he slept until 7:30. I am wondering if it's easier to keep doing the df and try to push the 2/3 a.m. feed later and later until it's at wake up time or if I should stop the df (since I believe Tracy Hogg suggests stopping it at 6 months) and just feed him when it's been about 6 hrs or more from his before bed feed. Is a 2/3 a.m. feed easier to eventually eliminate than a midnight-ish feed? I *think* he still needs to eat once in the night but it may be that he just wants to be comforted by the breast or is just in the habit. Any suggestions? I have a rough time trying to avoid ap in the wee hours so I'm better off going into it with a plan ;).

Since my post, we had 2 nights of transition from nighttime nursings. The first night I used pu/pd for 12 minutes and the second night it took 8 minutes of pu/pd. The last few nights he has woken up in the wee hours but has taken the pacifier and gone back to sleep. I've been feeding solids for a week now. Thanks for the support!

Anywhere from 1.5 to 3 hrs usually. His naps are still unpredictable and we still have 40 minute naps once in awhile. He does have one tiny tooth coming in but it's been taking a long time to break through. Yesterday we should have given him a catnap in the evening but we were visiting friends. Some days he does take 3 naps if 1 or more are short. We try to read his cues. He seems to be able to handle 2 hour A time. Thanks for your help, Jane!
